During Gamescom 2021, 2k Games and Firaxis announced Marvel’s Midnight Suns, a tactical RPG game that will feature a brand new assemble of beloved Marvel characters. Midnight Suns will follow the story of The Hunter who is the offspring of Lilith, Mother of Demons. Lilith has been revised by the terrorist organization Hydra and the only person know to defeat her is her child.
A group of Marvel heroes band together to awaken The Hunter, who is in a slumber in a sarcophagus, to help them battle against Lilith and any of her demons they may face. The Hunter will be fully customizable including choosing whether they are male or female and their superpowers.
The game will feature characters from various Marvel comics franchises such as Midnights Sons, X-Men, Avengers and Runaways. It has been rumoured that there will be a total of thirteen playable heroes, but the full collection is yet to be announced. Here shows a full list of all the characters that have been shown so far.
Captain Marvel
The first of two “Captains” to have been shown, Captain Marvel will be one of the many playable characters in the game. So far, Captain Marvel has only appeared in the gaming world as a skin in the game Fortnite so it will be good to see how her powers are portrayed in an RPG. Captain Marvel has been somewhat underrated since her entry into the comics, despite being one of the stronger characters, so I hope she plays a pivotal role in the game.
Captain America
With Hydra being the faction that has awakened Lilith, Steve Rogers will surely want to be part of the battle to rid the world of Lilith’s stronghold. His suit looks very similar to that of his one in Avengers: Infinity World so we could be looking at a darker version of America’s hero. Captain America has already appeared in numerous other Marvel video games but putting him in a role that looks to take him against an unfamiliar foe is something yet to be done. I can’t wait to see how Cap is played out.
Iron Man
The second of the original six Avengers to join the group is Captain America. Fans are already missing Tony Stark, so it is good to see Iron Man make a return to our screens, albeit in gameplay format. Demons haven’t been something Iron Man has faced before but with Hydra being the orchestrators of this fight, he’ll want to help out where he can and get his vengeance on their infiltration of S.H.I.E.L.D.
Doctor Strange
It’s looking as if March 2022 will be Doctor Strange’s month. Not only will he be appearing in Midnight Suns but his second MCU title Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness will also be released. Doctor Strange is one of the original members of the Midnight Sons in the comics, although he didn’t officially join until the Seige of Darkness story, so it comes as no surprise that he is included in the game.
Wolverine
It’s been quite a few years since Wolverine last hit our screens. Another film in the rumour mill is a revamped X-Men, yet another character in this game that’s looks like they’re getting some much-needed love before re-entering the MCU. Hopefully, Deadpool will be a character announced at a later date so we can finally get some screen time between the duo.
Nico Minoru
Nico Minoru isn’t a name that’s widely known to those that haven’t read the comics. She is part of the Runaways and had appeared on screen in Hulu’s T.V show “Runaways”. Nico is a Wiccan and harnesses magical powers from the Staff of One, which she can only use when she bleeds. Her powers are seen in the trailer as she helps Doctor Strange resurrect The Hunter.
Magik
Magik is one of the lesser-known members of the X-Men, but it looks as if her mutant powers are what gets her the nod to be included in the Midnight Suns. Magik has the ability to teleport, something that will surely be helpful to the team in their fight. Magik was recently portrayed by Anya Taylor-Joy in the film The New Mutants but that was an unfortunate bomb. Hopefully, Midnight Suns can give her the praise she deserves.
Ghost Rider
The Ghost Riders of Johnny Blaze and Danny Ketch maybe two of the original founders of the Midnight Sons, but it looks as if it will be Robbie Reyes version that’s included in this assemble. Although his bike doesn’t make an appearance in the teaser trailer, we do get to see his badass flaming chains. I cannot wait to see what Marvel does with his character, especially with rumours that Ghost Rider will be getting his own MCU T.V show.
Blade
Blade is being reincarnated very soon in the MCU, so the Midnight Suns is the perfect place to get the hype brewing around the vampire hunter. He is also another character that is part of the comics Midnight Sons. Not much is shown of Blade during the trailer, but the hunter will surely be a great help to The Hunter, using the skills he’s accumulated during his vampire-slaying days.
Lilith
It is clear from the trailer that Lilith will be the main antagonist of the game. She is the “Mother of All Demons” and spawns demons called Lilin.
This villain may have been portrayed in other popular pop culture series such as Supernatural and Once Upon a Time, but she is yet to make an appearance in any MCU film or TV show. Maybe the Midnight Suns will pave the way for her entry into the universe.
Marvel’s Midnight Suns is set to be released in March 2022 on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, and Nintendo Switch.
