Horizon-Zero-Dawn

Update 1.11 has arrived for Horizon Zero Dawn, and here’s the full list of changes and fixes added with this patch. This Horizon Zero Dawn update is exclusive to PC players. All the fixes, additions, and changes to the game will only impact PC players. From simple fixes to new settings for AMD and Nvidia users, this patch will get PC enthusiasts excited. Here’s everything new with Horizon Zero Dawn update 1.11.

Horizon Zero Dawn Update 1.11 Patch Notes

Graphical Improvements

  • Added Nvidia’s DLSS upscaling technology.
  • Added AMD’s FidelityFX Super Resolution, replacing FidelityFX CAS.

UI Changes

  • Adjusted settings screen to facilitate the addition of DLSS and FSR.
    • The render Scale option has been removed but the same result can now be accomplished by adjusting setting Upscale Method to Simple and adjusting Upscale Quality.

Performance Improvements

  • Improvement to the shader management system. This will result in a few noticeable differences:
    • There is no longer a shader pre-compilation step on startup. The game will always compile shaders during loading and in the background.
    • Stutters during gameplay that used to occur due to background shader compilation have now been significantly reduced.
    • Because shader compilation is still happening in the background you may notice the game having a higher CPU utilization while that is happening.
    • Loading screens will wait for the required shaders to be fully compiled. This may cause loading screens to take somewhat longer on certain systems.
    • On higher spec machines with faster CPUs, the loading screens will typically be shorter, due to more efficient shader compilation that better leverages high-end CPUs.

The additions of the DLSS and FidelityFX technology will allow players to take advantage of said technologies, letting them experience the game at its full potential. Besides these additions, the changes to the shader management system will reduce stuttering, so players should concern less about the issue.

Horizon Zero Dawn is available now on PC and PS4. For more information regarding this update, go to the official Horizon Zero Dawn Twitter page.

Horizon Zero Dawn Update 1.53 Patch Notes https://attackofthefanboy.com/guides/horizon-zero-dawn-update-1-53-patch-notes/ https://attackofthefanboy.com/guides/horizon-zero-dawn-update-1-53-patch-notes/#respond Wed, 25 Aug 2021 19:14:11 +0000 https://attackofthefanboy.com/?p=796966
Horizon-Zero-Dawn-Complete-Edition-PC

Update 1.53 has arrived for Horizon Zero Dawn, and here’s the full list of changes and fixes added with this patch. This update adds 60 FPS support to Horizon Zero Dawn when played on PlayStation 5 via backward compatibility. There aren’t any changes for PS4 players. This update is currently rolling out on PS5, so you can expect to see it in your download queue soon. Here’s everything new with Horizon Zero Dawn update 1.53.

Horizon Zero Dawn Update 1.53 Patch Notes

According to the PS5’s built-in Update History feature, here are the patch notes:

  • Unlocked framerate to 60 frames per second when running on a PS5 console in backwards compatibility mode
  • Fixed streaming performance issues when running on a PS5 console in backwards compatibility mode
  • Removed Graphics Mode option from the Visual Settings when running on a PS5 console in backwards compatibility mode

As stated above, PS5 players can now play Horizon Zero Dawn at 60 FPS in backward compatibility mode. Considering many players either already own Horizon Zero Dawn or received it for free during Sony’s Play at Home campaign earlier this year, this is a nice surprise for a lot of PlayStation owners.

horizon-zero-dawn-pc

This update also removes the Graphics Mode option from the settings menu, a holdover from the PS4 Pro version of the game. On PS4 Pro, players could choose between a checkerboard 4K resolution targeting 30 FPS or 1080p resolution that still targeted 30 FPS, but with fewer frame drops. The game ran smoothly on both settings for the most part though. Neither option offered 60 FPS, either.

Horizon Zero Dawn is not the first game to receive a 60 FPS patch on PlayStation 5. Days Gone had 60 FPS support on the PS5’s launch day, and God of War and Ghost of Tsushima received free updates to enable 4K 60 FPS gameplay. The Last of Us Part II also received a 60 FPS patch recently. These aren’t dedicated PS5 ports like Ghost of Tsushima Director’s Cut or Death Stranding Director’s Cut, but they’re a nice bonus.

Horizon Zero Dawn is available now on PC and PlayStation 4.

Horizon Zero Dawn has been receiving steady updates since its launch on PC in August. Guerilla Games hasn’t shied from shoring up the less-than-ideal state in which the game launched. One bug that has persisted throughout every update is a nefarious VRAM issue specific to AMD GPUs. That problem has now been eradicated.

With Patch 1.09 over a month behind us, Guerilla has reappeared to show us they are still working hard, even with the sequel, Forbidden West, on the … horizon. I’m not apologizing for that. Let’s move on from terrible puns and dive into the contents of Patch 1.10.

Horizon Zero Dawn Update 1.10 Patch Notes

Crash Fixes

  • Crash fix for when players continuously pressed the windows key;
  • Crash fix for when you press the LMB on the ESC button in the Benchmark Results;

Performance Improvements

  • Fixed an issue which saves up to 250MB of VRAM on all AMD GPUs;

Graphical Improvements

  • Fix for negative values in cubemap relighting shader (fixes for example the red graphical glitches in the Hades fight if you let the timer run out);
  • Fix for the graphics settings preset name not updating when you pressed Auto-Detect;
  • Fix for the menu (and loading screen) being displayed at incorrect scale when changing AF in borderless mode;
  • Fix for the resolution sometimes being too low in windowed mode;
  • Fix for the errands quest list overlapping with tutorial quest list;

Other Changes

  • Graphics settings are now stored in a text file instead of a binary file to facilitate easier tweaking.

Horizon Zero Dawn: How to Start The Frozen Wilds DLC https://attackofthefanboy.com/guides/horizon-zero-dawn-how-to-access-the-frozen-wilds-dlc/ https://attackofthefanboy.com/guides/horizon-zero-dawn-how-to-access-the-frozen-wilds-dlc/#respond Sat, 01 Aug 2020 02:41:11 +0000 https://attackofthefanboy.com/?p=667908
frozen-wilds-dlc-how-to-access

The Frozen Wilds expansion for Horizon Zero Dawn is seamlessly integrated into the main game, adding a new area to the map.  If you are using an existing Horizon Zero Dawn save file, you’ll need to find quest givers within the game to access the new content.

These quest givers will have blue markers over their heads when the game has been updated to version 1.40 and with The Frozen Wilds DLC installed.  These quest givers that will allow you to start the Frozen Wilds DLC can be found at the following locations:

  • Outside of Meridian you can find Rhavid, a Carja Noble with information that will lead you to the Banuk borderlands.
  • Inside the Carja border fort, speak with Ohtur for directions to the Cut.
  • North of the Grave Hoard aloy can meet Yariki a woman that is on her way out of the Cut with warnings about the dangers of the new area.

Upon speaking to one of these quest givers you’ll be given a new quest called “Into the Frozen Wilds.”  This will then show the location of The Frozen Wilds area.  The content is geared towards players that are at least a level 30, and to access these portions of the game you will have to at least completed the main story up to the “A Seeker at the Gates” main story mission.

You’ll know that you’ve entered The Frozen Wilds content as you enter into the area a logo will appear that welcomes you to the DLC content.  You’ll then meet the Banuk tribe in the snow-covered mountains in the Cut.

For players that are playing on any difficulty level other than “Story” you’ll most certainly need to be appropriately leveled to tackle the quests of this new content.  The Frozen Wilds features a number of new, more powerful machines and you’ll need to have both an appropriately leveled character and equipment.

horizon-zero-dawn-bluegleam

The Frozen Wilds DLC for Horizon Zero Dawn introduces a new item into the game that Aloy can find in the new area.  Early in the downloadable content on your way to The Shaman’s Path you’ll encounter a merchant that will accept Bluegleam as a currency to trade in.  This precious blue crystal can be found in numerous areas of The Frozen Wilds, by both exploration and through completing quests.

Taking the Shaman’s Path and completing this quest will get you started with your first batch of Bluegleam.  Some you’ll get by scavenging the area leading into the area where you’ll first encounter Ourea.  The reward for completing The Shaman’s Path quest will net you +6 Bluegleam and another single shard of the currency will be found on your way to the bunker.

A merchant at the foot of the Shaman’s Patch will allow you to trade this currency for powerful items.  He’ll offer the Banuk Champion Bow (12 Bluegleam), Banuk Powershot Bow (14 Bluegleam), Banuk Striker Bow (16 Bluegleam).  Bluegleam can also be traded for other things with this merchant.  You can purchase exclusive outfits for Aloy, like the Banuk Ice Hunter (14 Bluegleam), Carja Blazon Master (16 Bluegleam), and Nora Silent Hunter Master (18 Bluegleam).  A number of different loot boxes can be purchased with Bluegleam as well.

Further along in The Frozen Wilds DLC quests you’ll encounter another character named Sekuli that will allow you to purchase a map of places within the zone that will give you hints on the map as to where you might find more Bluegleam.  This map can be purchased for 250 Metal Shards, 1 Goat Skin, and 1 Badger Bone.

As the difficulty in The Frozen Wilds DLC ramps up quite quickly, it’s important to collect as much Bluegleam as you can during your time in this zone and try and collect these powerful weapons.

Horizon: Zero Dawn Guide: Tips For Getting Started https://attackofthefanboy.com/guides/horizon-zero-dawn-guide-tips-for-getting-started/ https://attackofthefanboy.com/guides/horizon-zero-dawn-guide-tips-for-getting-started/#respond Wed, 01 Mar 2017 18:23:24 +0000 http://attackofthefanboy.com/?p=646288
horizon-zero-dawn-5

The just released Horizon: Zero Dawn offers a very robust experience that features a lot of customization in how you handle everything. We’ve already given you some tips on a variety of topics, but this time we thought a more general guide on starting out in the game would be helpful.

This guide is certainly not the end all be all list of beginner tips, but they are some of the tips that we felt would help you early on based on how the game moves on from that point.

Do As Many Sidequests As You Can

The main story of Horizon: Zero Dawn is obviously the focus, but you will notice before too long that the main quest difficulties are getting very hard. These will recommend certain levels for taking them on. You can try them underleveled, but you will want to start taking on any sidequests that you can find. Whenever you get to a new area, always be on the look out for the green exclamation point that signifies someone you can talk to for some sort of quest. In addition, there are also the Cauldrons, Bandit Camps, and more that you can take on, so make sure to take advantage of all the XP you can earn from doing these.

Go For The Most Useful Skills First

This tip is actually one that we spent an entire guide on, which you can check out here. In short, check out all of the skills at the start and plan strategically on which ones you want to unlock, as you are not locked out of any from the start other than needing the few prerequisites that you can easily unlock.

Pick Up Any Resources You Find

Horizon: Zero Dawn is made up of a huge world map that you can explore, and all throughout that map are resources for you to collect. This resources are found as part of the land itself, such as the very prominent Ridgewood, but there are also plenty that you will find by inspecting the destroyed machines and human corpses in the game. Items like the aforementioned Ridgewood and Metal Shards are vital to search for, as not only can they be crafted for more arrows, but Metal Shards are the main form of currency in the game essentially. The only bad thing about picking up everything is part of our next tip.

Try To Upgrade Resource Bags ASAP

While you are trying to pick up everything that you can, you will pretty quickly realize that you are running out of room in your resource bag, not to mention you filling up the other bags like the weapon one and such. The good news is that you can upgrade these bags very early on, though you will need the correct resources. While you may not see wild animals as much as the machines, definitely kill any of them that you see as you will need their meat for the different bags.

Be Careful With Trading Resources Early

The game also offers a ton of different weapons, outfits, traps, and more that you get via trading with merchants. Some of these items are affordable, but there are also plenty that will see your Metal Shards and other items drain very quickly. As a result, don’t just start spending wildly because you can afford items. Maybe wait a bit and see if other merchants have better items that would be more useful, rather than you upgrading too early and finding yourself without enough trade bait for the items you really want.

Use Your Focus To Your Advantage

In Horizon: Zero Dawn’s intro, you are introduced to the Focus that Aloy finds in the old world of the machines that plays a central role in the rest of the game. This piece of tech allows her to scan the environment, notably the enemies. Whenever you see enemies of any sort, try to find tall grass or some sort of hiding spot and scan said enemies. By doing this, you can see their name, strengths and weaknesses, as well as the path they are moving on. You should take full advantage of this by tagging the enemy so that you can see it without the Focus being activated. Doing the same with tracking is also very useful, so make sure to get the jump on your enemies by planning ahead with the Focus.

Save, Save Save

This tip is very obvious, but I can’t overstate it enough. Horizon: Zero Dawn has a giant world, so you will be traveling a lot. As you cross the lands, you will constantly come across campfires that you can save at. These campfires give you the option to do a Quick Save or a Manual Save. Anytime you see a campfire show up on the map, definitely try to find it and save. Not only does this save you for if you are killed, but it also adds a new fast travel location for you to access, which leads to our final tip.

Get the Golden Fast Travel Pack Early

We already explained in another guide how the game has what is known as the Golden Fast Travel Pack, which allows you to use fast travel as much as you want, versus the requirement otherwise of using a Fast Travel Pack each time. It may take a little grinding for the items needed, but it is very worth it, especially once the world starts to really open up.

If you have some idea of your own based on your time with Horizon: Zero Dawn, definitely feel free to share them in the comments below.

Horizon: Zero Dawn Guide: How To Defeat Sawtooths https://attackofthefanboy.com/guides/horizon-zero-dawn-guide-how-to-defeat-a-sawtooth/ https://attackofthefanboy.com/guides/horizon-zero-dawn-guide-how-to-defeat-a-sawtooth/#respond Wed, 01 Mar 2017 08:35:13 +0000 http://attackofthefanboy.com/?p=646877
horizon-zero-dawn

The difficulty in Horizon: Zero Dawn definitely scales the later into the game you get, but there are very few of the machines that are pushovers. Watchers may be able to be taken out rather easily with an arrow to the eye, but another early machine that you will come across  that may give you some trouble is the Sawtooth.

As the name implies, the Sawtooth is based on the saber-toothed cat and definitely has some size on it. There are plenty of Sawtooths around the world of Horizon: Zero Dawn, but you will encounter one pretty early on in your adventure via a mission that has you taking one down.

The first time you take on a Sawtooth, make sure to use your Focus to scan it for weaknesses on its body and of the elemental variety. Make sure you are hiding in tall grass before you attempt to do this however, as you do not want to be seen at all, as it will destroy you pretty quickly.

It is also a good idea to tag its path as well, so you can prepare traps in his pathway. The Tripcaster that you get before this mission can be very helpful. However, what is the most helpful against the Sawtooth are your fire arrows, as the Sawtooth is weak to fire.

Make sure to keep scanning with your focus so that you can see the weak spots on the Sawtooth and then start hitting those with fire arrows. The weak spot on the underside of the Sawtooth is especially vulnerable to fire, so make sure to use Concentration to slow down time and aim for that if you can to gain a huge advantage. Just make sure you aren’t too close or you’ll take damage as well from the explosion that happens from destroying the weak spot on the Sawtooth’s underside with a fire arrow.

If you can manage to stun it with your Tripcaster and then lay into it with some fire arrows, you should be able to take it down before too long. If you need to run, try to get out of its line of sight and back into the tall grass and start the process all over again.

Horizon: Zero Dawn Guide: How To Climb & Override A Tallneck https://attackofthefanboy.com/guides/horizon-zero-dawn-guide-how-to-climb-a-tallneck/ https://attackofthefanboy.com/guides/horizon-zero-dawn-guide-how-to-climb-a-tallneck/#respond Wed, 01 Mar 2017 05:35:31 +0000 http://attackofthefanboy.com/?p=646879
horizon-zero-dawn

Horizon: Zero Dawn is finally available and there are bound to be tons of people playing it. While playing through the game, you will come across countless machines. There is one type that is will standout more than any other for their size, which are known as Tallnecks.

Tallnecks are based off of giraffes, which can easily be seen with its design that literally is described by its name. They are absolutely giant and will tower over Aloy easily.

As we’ve outlined in another guide, overriding most machines is a fairly simple process, but the Tallnecks are completely different from any others, as you have to actually climb them and they provide you with information on the in-game map.

There are five total Tallnecks found in Horizon: Zero Dawn, with each typically being in an area filled with enemies of some sort. Most of these are surrounded by machines, but one is even located around a bandit camp. As a result, you have one of two options. You can just kill all the enemies in the area first and then focus on the Tallneck, or you can try to be sneaky and take down the Tallneck stealthily.

To best go for the stealthy approach, make sure to have a stealth-focused outfit on and have the skills that will help you sneak by enemies unlocked if possible. Your goal is to climb up the Tallneck, though that can not be done directly from the ground by climbing up its legs.

Instead, what you need to do it keep an eye on the track of the Tallneck and find nearby platforms that are higher off the ground. Get up on said platform and jump onto the Tallneck’s back when you get a chance. After doing this, just climb up the rest of the Tallneck and override the machine at the top by holding down Triangle.

As you will notice, the giant world map in Horizon: Zero Dawn is mostly covered with fog at the start, but it will dissipate in parts as you explore more. However, overriding the Tallnecks will cause large sections of the fog to go away, as well as showing off some special locations on the map.

Horizon: Zero Dawn Guide: Fighting Corrupted Machines https://attackofthefanboy.com/guides/horizon-zero-dawn-guide-fighting-corrupted-machines/ https://attackofthefanboy.com/guides/horizon-zero-dawn-guide-fighting-corrupted-machines/#respond Tue, 28 Feb 2017 10:50:58 +0000 http://attackofthefanboy.com/?p=646281
horizon-zero-dawn-9

Horizon: Zero Dawn has a giant world to explore and in that world are many different side quests that you can take part in, some of which involve the Corrupted Zones. Inside these special zones, as well as during quests, you will come across corrupted machines, which can be very difficult to take down, so we are here to give you some tips on how to defeat such enemies in Horizon: Zero Dawn.

There is a type of machine known as Corruptors, but that is not what we are referring to here. The ones we are talking about are corrupted versions of existing machines in the game, which basically means they have been infected. This can be seen by a black and red mist/Spider-Man symbiote like residue coming off of them as they run around, with traces of it being left behind as it moves.

These corrupted machines are much stronger and a true challenge for you, especially when there are many of them together. As a result, you have to be very careful or Aloy can get overwhelmed very quickly and get taken down, even if you are well prepared.

Just like with the other enemies in the game, the key is to use the right strategy against the various corrupted machines, which will depend on their base type. As always, first of all, scan the machines so that you can find out all the details about it, including its strengths and weaknesses. For instance, finding one that is vulnerable to electric attacks means you are going to want to set shock traps especially.

These corrupted machines also have a lot more health than the regular versions, so don’t expect to be taking them out quickly. Even the Watchers that normally can be one shot with a perfect arrow into the eye won’t go down in just one hit. This means you have to be even more careful with your stealth, as you cannot pop out to take them down in one hit.

In addition, these corrupted machines cannot be overridden, so do not even try to do so. Attempting this will just leave you out in the open to be attacked by the stronger than usual machine. Instead, just come up with a strategy for that specific type of machine and expect a tough fight ahead of you even on the weakest of the enemies.

horizon-zero-dawn-8

Horizon: Zero Dawn definitely provides one of the most unique game settings we’ve seen, meshing an older style world with technology. This means on top of the wild animals you see roaming the grasslands and other locations, you will also find machines that resemble different animals and dinosaurs. We’ve already told you in another guide how you can override these creatures, but now we are here to tell you how you can mount certain machines and ride them around the world of Horizon: Zero Dawn.

There are lots of different creatures you will come across in your travels in Horizon: Zero Dawn, but only a few of them can be mounted and ridden.

While there are additional machines in the game that you can override by completing Cauldrons, the ones that you can mount are all available from the beginning. It just depends on you finding them on the map.

One machine that can be overridden and mounted is the horse-like Strider, which you will do as part of a mission early on in the game. In addition, there are two more that you can mount by overriding them, which are the Broadhead and Charger.

Broadheads look like cattle with its horns extending out side to side, while Chargers look like a ram with curving horns that you should be able to see from a distance.

The method for mounting these is to first sneak up on them and override them. After one of these three machine types is under your control, press Triangle next to it to climb up on its back.

After mounting each of the machines, you can now travel much faster across the in-game world, but also be able to attack enemies as well. Make sure to take advantage of this, as the machines are pretty beastly in action.

As we told you in the skills guide, there is also a very useful tier four skill you can unlock known as Call Mount+, which will cause an overridden mount to show up for you to use at any time, even if you didn’t have one currently overridden yourself.

Horizon: Zero Dawn has finally released and with it comes one of the most impressive open worlds to date that manages to feel alive throughout. The only downside of such a large world to explore is that traveling between points can take quite awhile, even with a mount. The game does offer Fast Travel Packs that you can craft, but what you may not know is that there is a special Fast Travel Pack that you can get relatively early in the game that allows you access to infinite free fast travel.

The world of Horizon: Zero Dawn is filled with plenty of settlements and camp fires that very often feature a traveling merchant that you can speak with to get new weapons, outfits, resources, and more in exchange for specific items. You can purchase regular Fast Travel Packs from these merchants, but there is also something very useful that you may not notice in the menu that will save you a lot in the long run.

When speaking with a merchant, go down to the resources that they have for sale. At this point, you will notice the Fast Travel Pack at the top of the list, followed by other resources. However, since these are listed by rarity, the one we really want is at the very end of the list.

Scroll down to the bottom and you will see the Very Rare item known as the Golden Fast Travel Pack. This item provides you with unlimited Fast Travel to discovered Campfires and Settlements throughout the world of Horizon: Zero Dawn, so you can easily see how useful it is.

To get this item, you will have to exchange 50 Metal Shards, 1 Fox Skin, and 10 Fatty Meat. The Metal Shards should be pretty easy for you if you are scavenging for resources a bit. A fox will require you to actually kill a fox, so keep an eye out for those. You will also have to kill plenty of other wild animals in the hopes of getting Fatty Meat, as there are different types of meat to find.

After collecting all of these items, go to the merchant and get the Golden Fast Travel Pack to make you experience in Horizon: Zero Dawn all the better, with you able to zip around the map to discovered locations with no worry of lacking the resources to do so anymore.

Horizon: Zero Dawn Guide: Which Skills Should You Unlock First? https://attackofthefanboy.com/guides/horizon-zero-dawn-guide-what-skills-should-you-choose-first/ https://attackofthefanboy.com/guides/horizon-zero-dawn-guide-what-skills-should-you-choose-first/#respond Tue, 28 Feb 2017 04:59:26 +0000 http://attackofthefanboy.com/?p=646291
horizon-zero-dawn-6

Horizon: Zero Dawn is far from an easy game, as it can get quite difficult as you advance through the game. Leveling up can help by itself, but the skills that you can then start to unlock can really help even more so. We’ve already given you a rundown of the skills available in the game in another guide, but this time our focus is on the most important skills that you should look at first and foremost.

As mentioned in the other guide, there are 36 total skills to unlock in Horizon: Zero Dawn, with four tiers that cost 1, 2, 3, and 3, points respectively for those found there. You will need 81 total points to get all skills unlocked, but that will obviously take quite awhile.

From the point of the game where you gain access to your skills, it’s not a bad idea to go ahead and select all of the tier one skills, just because they only require 1 skill point each and branch off from there. However, the first one you will want to unlock is Concentration without question. This allows you to slow down time by pressing R3, similar to the Dead Eye technique in Red Dead Redemption. Critical Hit is also nice, as it can be used on the stronger enemies when you knock them down for extra damage.

Another very important one here is Gatherer, which will give you additional natural resources early on. This helps with crafting ammo and such, though it may lead to you getting a full bag before you can upgrade your pouch. Any of the techniques that help you be more stealthy, such as Silent Strike and Silent Drop are very useful as well.

After the initial skills, there are some specific skill trees that you should probably try to go after. The next one I would go for is Heavy Lifter, even though it’s not really as useful. Instead, we are just unlocking it so that we can gain access to the skills after, which are Concentration+ and Fast Reload, which will greatly help you in combat. Critical Hit+ is also quite useful, as it just makes those specials attacks stronger.

For those that plan on utilizing the override ability, which lets you take control of most machines in the game, you might want to go ahead and do the tier 1 skill Lure Call and pick Combat Override and Combat Override+, which increase the time a machine stays overridden by 50% and indefinitely respectively.

One of the most important tier four skills you will want pretty early is Tinker, which allows you to remove Weapon Coils and Outfit Weaves and then be able to reuse them. Normally, you have to completely replace these and will lose them entirely, but getting this will prevent that. To get it, you will have to get Gatherer for 1, Scavenger for 2, and then Disarm Traps for 3. All of these are useful skills, but the main goal is to get Tinker. You can also go on the other path and get Ammo Crafter and Scavenger+ as for more resources.

Other than these, the rest of the skills are really more up to you in how you want to handle them. Some tier four skills like Call Mount+, which allows you to call a overridden mount if you don’t currently have one, are useful, but they aren’t imperative early for your success. Just make sure you read over each of the available skills in Horizon: Zero Dawn. before making any decisions and you should be good.

Horizon: Zero Dawn may seem like your typical action-adventure game on the surface, but inside of that experience is an RPG at heart. With that comes a leveling up system that also allows you to upgrade your skills as you make it further into the game. With 36 of them in total to unlock in Horizon: Zero Dawn, we thought we’d give a rundown of them all for you to look over without having to go into the menus for some planning.

Skills for Aloy are split into three different categories in Horizon: Zero Dawn, Prowler, Brave, and Forager, which each have 12 skills available. Each also has four tiers, of which you must unlock the first to be able to unlock the one under it and so on, though a few branch off. The first tier for each will cost one skill each to unlock, with the second costing two, and the third three. However, while there is a fourth tier, it only costs three to unlock those skills, rather than the four you would expect.

The Prowler category is mostly as it sounds, with it being focused more on stealth and sneaking around enemies, including taking them out silently.

Prowler
Silent Strike (1) – Press R1 to perform a silent takedown on small machines and humans, or deal high damage to medium enemies.
Hunter Reflexes (1) – Time slows while aiming during a jump or a slide.

Strong Strike+ (3, requires Strong Strike) – 30% damage increase to Strike attacks: Silent Strike, Strike From Above, Strike From Below, Leader Strike.
Quiet Sprint (3, requires Dodge Prowess) – Sprinting is quiet, greatly reducing the chances of alerting nearby enemies.

The second batch of skills known as Brave are more focused on weapon-based attacks, with this introducing perhaps the most important skills of all.

Brave

Fast Reload (3, requires Concentration+) – Faster reload while using Concentration.
Triple Shot (3, requires Double Shot) – Use R1 while aiming to notch up to 3 arrows at once on all bow weapons.
Fighting Back (3, requires Knock Down) – Heavy spear attacks deal increased damage when Aloy’s health is low.

The final batch of 12 skills that are known as Forager are more of a miscellaneous group of skills, though they do include some that involve finding supplies, but also overriding of machines.

Guerrilla Game’s latest title, Horizon: Zero Dawn, features a vast world to explore that is full of many different types of machines that are based on different animals and dinosaurs. We already explained to you how you can override machines in the game in another guide, which plays a big part in the experience, but there is a way for you to unlock the ability to override the much tougher machines as well.

Upon reaching the point of the game where you are first able to override a machine, there are six different ones that you can do this on. The way to be able to tell this is by using your Focus and scanning the machine, which will reveal a certain symbol. At the start, you can only override those with the PSI logo, which you can find out for sure by entering your menu and looking at your notebook in the Machine Catalogue. By clicking on a creature you’ve seen, you will see not only the logo, but also the name of that associated logo.

While you are limited to six at this point, you can unlock the ability to override most of the rest of the machines in the game, with this being done by completing the in-game Cauldrons. These mini-dungeons are available as soon as the world opens up for you in Horizon: Zero Dawn, but they each have different difficulty recommendations, so be very careful.

Horizon: Zero Dawn offers four total Cauldrons for you to conquer, with each providing between three to five new overrides. To help you find the one you’re looking for, the below are what you need to do to be able to override each one.

Overrides Available From The Start
Broadhead
Charger
Redeye Watcher
Strider
Tallneck
Watcher

Cauldron SIGMA
Grazer
Lancehorn
Sawtooth
Scrapper

Cauldron RHO
Longleg
Shell-Walker
Snapmaw
Trampler

Cauldron XI
Behemoth
Fire Bellowback
Freeze Bellowback
Glinthawk
Stalker

Cauldron ZETA
Rockbreaker
Stormbird
Thunderjaw

Sadly, there are also a few machines in the game that cannot be overridden, which include Corruptors, Deathbringers, as well as the Corrupted versions of the existing machines.

The world of Horizon: Zero Dawn is definitely one of the most unique in all of gaming, with robotic creatures that resemble dinosaurs and animals roaming the landscape. While you will be spending a lot of your time either sneaking around these creatures or fighting them, there is another option that can make your experience all the better, which is to override them.

Horizon: Zero Dawn is all about the limited use of technology in this post-apocalyptic world, with you gaining the ability to take control of the different enemies you find in the game. Not too far into the game, you will be tasked with overriding a Strider, which is a horse-like machine.

Overriding itself is rather easy, but can certainly get much more problematic with the stronger enemies. The basic method of overriding is to sneak up on the unsuspecting machine, while taking advantage of areas like tall grass. Some of the upgraded skills can help with this as well to make your a more silent lurker.

If you can sneak up on the robot without them noticing you, you will see two options, either for you to execute a silent strike with R1, which may or may not destroy them depending on their size, or for you to override them by holding down Triangle.

You can’t simply press Triangle, as that will end the sequence and probably lead to you getting seen. Just hold down the button and eventually you will have taken over the programming of the various machines in the game.

There are a few of these machines that you can actually mount to ride around, but the majority of them will just be reprogrammed to help you in battle. However, the override is not permanent, so be very careful with how you plan on using them. Thankfully, there are some Combat Override skills that can help with that.

At the start of the game, the number of machines that you can override is pretty small, but you can expand the number of machine types that you can override by completing the Cauldrons throughout the game.
