How-to-Make-Salmon-Meuniere-in-Breath-of-the-Wild

Cooking in The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild can create some essential items for any adventurer. From keeping you toasty in the frozen heights of Lanayru Mountain to keeping you cold in the depths of Eldin Volcano, or even restoring hearts and giving you a few extra, it’s safe to say that a home-cooked meal is a must-have. But cooking in BoTW takes some serious trial and error, and a lot of the time your efforts will return a plate full of dubious food. Salmon Meunière is a meal you don’t want to mess up, so read on to find out how you can master the art of Meunière.

How to Cook Salmon Meunière in Breath of the Wild

Salmon Meunière may be one of the more complex recipes to recreate in Breath of the Wild, but it rewards any committed chef with a bountiful of hearts when they are needed most. The recipe requires one Hearty Salmon, one Tabantha Wheat, and one Goat Butter, which will need to be thrown into a pan together. All of these are pretty standard ingredients you’ll come across during your adventure through Hyrule but tend to be used in a variety of other recipes rather than dedicated to this one.

However, this recipe does serve a purpose outside of being a wealthy health item, and Link must create Salmon Meunière for a quest set by Kheel after calming the Divine Beast Van Medoh. Kheel can be found in Warbler’s Nest, and will request Link locates her sisters for a rehearsal, but Genli has disappeared while refusing to sing without Salmon Meunière. Each sister you locate will provide you with an ingredient to the recipe to stop you from having to trek around trying to find everything. Upon giving the meal to Genli, she will return to Kheel for rehearsal and the quest will be completed.

Breath of the Wild is available now on Nintendo Switch.

Zelda: Breath of the Wild – How to Get into Hyrule Castle https://attackofthefanboy.com/guides/legend-zelda-breath-wild-get-hyrule-castle/ https://attackofthefanboy.com/guides/legend-zelda-breath-wild-get-hyrule-castle/#respond Tue, 07 Mar 2017 20:59:54 +0000 http://attackofthefanboy.com/?p=647467
zelda-breath-of-the-wild-hyrule-castle

You’ve conquered the four Divine Beasts, you’ve defeated tons of enemies, you’ve explored and beaten dozens of Shrines, Link is strong and you’re ready to take on Calamity Ganon, but how do you get there? Sure, Hyrule Castle is kind of sitting right in the middle of the entire realm, but if you want to survive the long, winding path to Calamity Ganon and Princess Zelda then you need to know how to get into Hyrule Castle in The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild.

This guide won’t act as a full walkthrough, as Hyrule Castle is simply too large and chaotic to lay out a definitive roadmap for you to follow. Instead I want to give you an easy way in, with tips for how to make it all the way to Hyrule Castle’s entrance. The area and grounds of the castle are swarming with Guardians, and they move around trying to find Link, so you’ll have to think on your feet. Make sure you have the Master Sword, as it will do tons of damage against these guys, and won’t be damaged by them. Here’s where and how to get it, in case you don’t already know. With that said, here’s all we have found so far.

The best way to get into Hyrule Castle in Breath of the Wild appears to be to the North. Sure, the flat, open land in front of the castle appear safe, but once you get close you’ll find it swarming with Guardians. If you’re strong enough to take these head-on, then that may be the best way in for you. If you’re anticipating a struggle though, you’ll want to head North, past Hyrule Castle and toward its back.

Once there you’ll see a moat down below, which you can sail over with the paraglider. There are many small ledges to grab or land on, so watch for one that looks relatively safe. If you’ve beaten all four Divine Beasts, which I highly recommend you do before taking on Hyrule Castle, you will have the Ritu ability to make a powerful updraft. Use this to land higher on the ledges, allowing for faster entry into the castle.

Once you make it onto the caste grounds you need to work your way up and around. A new 3D map will show up to help guide you. There are rooms highlighted on there that feature extremely tough enemies, but also very valuable treasure. If you want to get into Hyrule Castle you will likely want to avoid any of these that you can, but if you are OK backing out after a while they might be worth the effort.

Keep an eye out for Guardians, hitting them in the eye with arrows, then dodging behind cover whenever possible. Do this all the way up and around the castle and you should find yourself near the entrance. The final run is covered by Guardians of all sorts, including flying ones that can spot you like a sniper. Either utilize stealth gear or do what I did and simply rush. Use food that gives you extra stamina and hearts, making sure to stop behind any possible cover you find. Make it to the entrance and you’ll be in. Now the real hard part begins, but we have a guide to help you beat Calamity Ganon, in case you need it.

The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild is a massive game, and hopefully you’ve put tons of hours into it by now. At some point you’ll decide that it is finally time to take on the final boss: Calamity Ganon. This mighty creature has made Hyrule Castle his home, and while you can rush to him right from the start of the game, you definitely won’t want to, if you want to survive the encounter. Once you’re ready we are here to help. Here’s our guide on how to beat Calamity Ganon in The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild.

How to Beat Ganon in Breath of the Wild

First, in order to beat Calamity Ganon, you have to make it to him. We’ve got you covered here as well with this guide on how to get into Hyrule Castle in Breath of the Wild. It’s a tough fight to get there, and then it’s a tougher fight inside. Be sure to prepare yourself, not only by beating the Divine Beasts, but also by cooking up tons of helpful meals. You’ll want ones that increase hearts and stamina, and you’ll also want something to give you Flame Guard, as Calamity Ganon will light you up a few times.

Once you get into Hyrule Castle the fight against Calamity Ganon will begin. If you have defeated all four Divine Beasts they will immediately take away half of Ganon’s health. I highly recommend you do this, it will really help. You’ll also want the Master Sword. It will not be damaged or destroyed while you fight him either, so if you don’t already have it you might want to check out this guide and this one.

So, the fight itself. It starts off not too difficult. All you need to do at the beginning of the Calamity Ganon fight is dodge his attacks, move in and strike. Take out enough of his health and you’ll begin phase two of the Calamity Ganon fight. Here things get a lot tougher.

Ganon will be covered in a fiery shield which blocks all incoming damage. There is a way through it though. Perfect dodges will trigger a slow-mo attack from Link, and you will do a ton of damage against Ganon. If he climbs on the wall, just avoid his strikes for a bit, then when he’s on the floor again you can move in. Watch for any incoming strike and dodge out of the way with the jump button. Get the timing right and things will slow down, allowing you to slam on the attack button, delivering lots and lots of damage.

Do this enough and Calamity Ganon will fall….or will he? Actually you will move the fight outside with Ganon transforming into his beast form. Hopefully you have a good, reliable horse ready, because you’ll be riding on him. Princess Zelda will give you a new bow that doesn’t require arrows and will deliver massive light damage to Dark Beast Ganon.

Ride around Dark Beast Ganon, avoiding any of his attacks. Wait for Zelda to let you know when to strike, and she will highlight spots on Ganon’s large body. If you don’t see them then you need to get to his other side very quickly. Repeat this process until things change. At this point you will see a large eye-like object coming out of Dark Beast Ganon’s head. You need to wait for the right moment though.

Let Ganon attack, lighting the grass on fire, then watch for the eye to appear. Jump off your horse and use the updraft from the fire to get up high, then pull your bow in the air and fire. Deliver a good hit and Dark Beast Ganon will fall.

How to Get More Rupees in Breath of the Wild https://attackofthefanboy.com/guides/zelda-breath-wild-guide-get-rupees/ https://attackofthefanboy.com/guides/zelda-breath-wild-guide-get-rupees/#respond Mon, 06 Mar 2017 19:16:29 +0000 http://attackofthefanboy.com/?p=647378

The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild finally makes rupees a tough resource to collect. After decades of games where rupees seemingly fall out of the sky, BotW hides them away, while also requiring them to complete some of the later quests. So, to help out we put together this guide on how to get more rupees in The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild.

Get More Rupees in Zelda BOTW

First off, we’ll give you one method that’s a bit of a cheat. It’s not a real one, it doesn’t hack the game or utilize some sort of major exploit, but you will be using the save system to get around a random chance thing. We won’t start there though, so if you want to avoid any semblance of impropriety, just use these first two methods instead.

Method #1: Cooking. As we said in our beginner’s guide for The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, you should be doing this all the time. Cooking not only enhances the bonuses you get from eating certain foods, it also increases their value. One of the easiest to make and best at getting more rupees is meat. Hunt down any wild animal you see, then cook up about three pieces of meat and you should make a tidy sum. Experiment around with this and you should find some recipes that are easy to make, but worth a good amount of rupees.

Method #2: Ore are the most valuable items that you can just find out in the world. Usually found on mountains or other rocky areas, the large black ore deposits can either be blown up, or hit with a large two-handed weapon for them to drop whatever ore they contain. These will usually fetch 50 rupees each or more, and if you really want to you can save and reload until you get the ore you really want.

Method #3: This one is the sort-of, but not really cheat. To the south west, just outside of Lurelin Village you will find a hut where an old man offers to play a game. You pay 100 rupees and he will give you a chance at 300 rupees. There’s a pattern to the game, though it changes every once in a while. This makes it tough to always get the 300 rupees, but if you save before choosing, then load your game if you fail, you should get an easy 300 rupees from this game every single time.

How to get more rupees in The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild is a tough question to answer this early in the game’s life. There will undoubtedly be better methods discovered later on, as people dig deeper into this massive world. If you have a new method of getting rupees please let us know in the comments.

Zelda: Breath of the Wild – How to Get Green Tunic https://attackofthefanboy.com/guides/legend-zelda-breath-wild-guide-green-tunic/ https://attackofthefanboy.com/guides/legend-zelda-breath-wild-guide-green-tunic/#comments Sun, 05 Mar 2017 05:54:54 +0000 http://attackofthefanboy.com/?p=647297
Zelda-E3

Ever since the first game in the series debuted on the NES back in 1986, Link has pretty much always work his now iconic green tunic. Sure, The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild changed a lot about the series, but it wouldn’t change that. Right? Well, that’s what a lot of players have thought, but right now it’s not fully known. So here’s all the info on where is the green tunic in The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild.

As of right now it is debated whether the official, classic green tunic is in The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild. It’s been seen in the game files, supposedly, so it’s likely in there in some way, but no one has come forward with definite proof. Still, there is hope out there for those who really want to have a nice green tunic for Link.

The best hope right now is to use amiibo. Many Zelda amiibo give you random, rare, powerful items and gear for Link to use and wear in the game. These seem like the best shot at getting a green tunic in Breath of the Wild, but so far I have yet to get one from a drop. It’s seemed like wishful thinking so far, but some people are claiming that it has or will work, so it’s worth trying out, if you have some Zelda amiibo laying around.

Otherwise the question remains of where to get the green tunic in Breath of the Wild. If it’s in a store or dungeon then no one has definitively found it yet, but watch for an update to this article when they do. Thankfully you still have a chance at getting close to the classic green tunic.

In Hateno Village, which you should run across fairly early in the game if you’re following the main quest, there’s a shop where you can dye your clothes. The best way to get the green tunic so far in Breath of the Wild is to pick something that resembles it, take it here, and dye it green. Not a perfect answer, I know, but it’s the best we have so far. If you have a better one then please shout out in the comments below.

You climbed Death Mountain, you braved the fires and lava and falling debris, and you conquered Divine Beast Vah Rudania, perhaps using our walkthrough a little bit along the way. You’ve done all of this and made it to the end of the dungeon, and you’re ready to face the boss: Fireblight Ganon. Unfortunately, even if you’re tough, this boss has some tricks that might confuse you. So, to help out, here’s our guide for how to beat Fireblight Ganon in The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild.

Fireblight Ganon starts out not being too tough. The biggest problem is that he has a big ax that will do tons of damage to you, if you’re too slow. He’s slow as well though, so get a powerful one-handed weapon out and keep moving. Move in, hit a few times, dodge out, maybe getting a flurry strike along the way. Get him to half health and the real battle will begin.

At half health Fireblight Ganon becomes a real pain, especially if you don’t know what to do. He puts up a fire shield that surrounds his body, then starts flinging fireballs at you, which will explode, doing tons of damage. This one took me a while to puzzle out, since I wasn’t paying close enough attention.

The key is that he draws in everything around him whenever he charges for the fireball attack. You can defeat this by tossing a bomb at him and detonating it when he pulls it in. This will not only bring down the shield, but it will also stun him for a good chunk of time. Get your most powerful weapon out and get swinging.

After doing this he should calm down a bit and you can go back to his normal pattern, so just get in and get some hits. After a while he will start targeting you with a laser. Move quickly and dodge these attacks, then move in for the strike when you can. After enough of this Fireblight Ganon will fall and you will be done with Divine Beast Vah Rudania in The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild.

There’s other dungeons and other bosses in The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild though, click here for all of our guides.

The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild’s four main dungeons can be tackled in any order you’d like. This means you might find yourself in a much tougher position, if you rushed to Divine Beast Vah Rudania. We recommended waiting in our Divine Beast order guide, but you can still take it on pretty quickly, if you have the rupees and the skills. No matter what, you might get stuck a couple of times, so here’s our Diving Beast Vah Rudania walkthrough for The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild.

Rather than make you read the whole thing, I recorded my own playthrough of the Vah Rudania dungeon. This time, unlike with Divine Beast Vah Ruta, we’re showing you the play through from before completing the dungeon. I do make a couple of mistakes in the editing, so watch for a terminal that I had to insert in after recording the narration.

Also, this video has the boss battle included. I still went ahead and made a separate guide to help with the battle against Fireblight Ganon though, in case you don’t want to watch the whole video. It’s worth checking out though since I make a pretty funny mistake in the recording, but the info is all accurate…once I get my little mistake out of the way.

Divine Beast Vah Rudania is one of the tougher of The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild’s four main dungeons. Saving it till later is a good idea, though the rupees required to buy the equipment necessary to get there might force that on you. Once completed though you’ll receive a very effective defensive bonus, which might just come in handy when you finally decide to face off against Calamity Ganon.

The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild Guide – How to Use Amiibo https://attackofthefanboy.com/guides/legend-zelda-breath-wild-guide-use-amiibo/ https://attackofthefanboy.com/guides/legend-zelda-breath-wild-guide-use-amiibo/#respond Fri, 03 Mar 2017 21:47:05 +0000 http://attackofthefanboy.com/?p=647243
amiibo-1

Nintendo’s amiibo figures have expanded from Super Smash Bros. to encompass pretty much every big Nintendo title they release. This is true once again with The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, which supports not only the old SSB figures, but also Wolf Link, the 30th anniversary Zelda line, and its own custom line that was released today. We kind of know what they do in the game, and we’ll explain more of that below, but the big question for a lot of players is just how to use them. Here’s our guide on how to use amiibo in The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild.

To use amiibo in Breath of the Wild you first need to enable the feature. It is turned off by default, so press + to get into the menu. Hit ZR to move to the System menu and select the Options menu. Here the top option should be to turn on or off amiibo, so toggle it as necessary.

Once you back out choose the new amiibo option in your special ability list by holding up on the d-pad. Press L and there should be a circle in front of you. Using an amiibo will cause a chest or item to appear here, so make sure you move around until the red circle is on a flat surface. Once you have a good spot take your amiibo and place it on the right Joy-Con near the thumbstick.

If you did everything correctly it should scan properly and an item or chest will appear before you in the game. Each amiibo does different things, but they’re also a bit random. For example: Wolf Link will give you a wolf companion, Super Smash Bros. Link can get you Epona, and the rest mostly just give you random stuff, such as the Switch t-shirt that Nintendo has been showing off.

And that’s how to use amiibo in The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild. Let us know the coolest thing you got from your amiibo in the comments below.

Zelda: Breath of the Wild Guide – How to Have Multiple Save Files https://attackofthefanboy.com/guides/the-legend-of-zelda-breath-of-the-wild-guide-how-to-have-multiple-save-files/ https://attackofthefanboy.com/guides/the-legend-of-zelda-breath-of-the-wild-guide-how-to-have-multiple-save-files/#comments Fri, 03 Mar 2017 20:11:40 +0000 http://attackofthefanboy.com/?p=647230
zelda-breath-of-the-wild-save-game-760x428

We previously reported how The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild changes the way you save your game. You see, you can kind of only have one save file going at a time, which is different than before, where Nintendo had three save slots available right from the start. However, there is a way to have multiple save files in the game, letting you restart your adventure, or have a save where you just kind of mess around. Here’s our quick guide on how to have multiple save files in The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild.

It works via the Switch console itself, rather than having multiple save slots in the game. To get a second, third, or higher save file going you need to back out of the game, making sure to save your progress of course, then create a totally separate profile on the Switch. This is done pretty easily within the System Setting menu, so head in there and create whatever you want.

I would make it easy to understand what you’re doing, perhaps labeling them with numbers. These profiles will stay on the system until you erase them, so don’t make junk ones that you’ll want to delete later, as you’ll lose your save file for that account. Once you’ve made the profile, making sure to select an appropriate, perhaps Zelda themed logo and color for it, you can boot the game up and the Switch will ask you which profile to load the game with.

Choosing a profile that has not played the game before will simply start the whole game over again. You’ll be right back at the beginning and can rush through the tutorial once again, saving whenever you are ready.

And that’s how to have multiple save files for The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild. For more tips and guides about the game click here.

Zelda: Breath of the Wild Boss Guide – How to Beat Waterblight Ganon https://attackofthefanboy.com/guides/zelda-breath-of-the-wild-boss-guide-how-to-beat-waterblight-ganon/ https://attackofthefanboy.com/guides/zelda-breath-of-the-wild-boss-guide-how-to-beat-waterblight-ganon/#comments Fri, 03 Mar 2017 19:46:14 +0000 http://attackofthefanboy.com/?p=647220
breath-of-the-wild-waterblight-ganon

The Divine Beast Vah Ruta dungeon will likely be most player’s first dungeon in The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild. This is good, cause it’s what we recommended you do first, but also because it’s the easiest to complete and gives you a very powerful special ability. To get it though you have to complete the dungeon and then beat the boss: Waterblight Ganon. We gave our walkthrough for Divine Beast Vah Ruta right here, and now we’re going to show you how to beat Waterblight Ganon.

As with all bosses in The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, the fight against Waterblight Ganon takes place over two phases. The first is pretty simple, just make sure you have a powerful weapon and a shield equipped and able to be used at the same time; no two-handed weapons for this fight.

Waterblight Ganon likes to throw his spear at you, so be ready to move quickly. Otherwise you want to get in close and get hits in whenever possible. He’ll teleport away after a bit, so watch where he’s going, getting ready to dodge or block any attacks that come from him. After doing half his health bar in damage you’ll trigger the second phase, which is a bit tougher to deal with.

In the second phase of the Waterblight Ganon fight, the water will rise making navigation much tougher. Use the platforms to stand, but also use your freezing ability to make new areas to work with, as well as sorts of bridges between the available platforms. You never want to be swimming during this fight, you will get hit.

If you have any shock arrows left over from getting into Divine Beast Vah Ruta then use them now; they’ll do tons of damage against Waterblight Ganon. Otherwise just keep on the move, shifting between your own frozen platforms and the ones available, keeping enough distance between you and Waterblight Ganon for you to dodge, but moving in if he stumbles and eventually you’ll take him down.

The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild Guide – What is the Best Divine Beast Order https://attackofthefanboy.com/guides/the-legend-of-zelda-breath-of-the-wild-guide-what-is-the-best-divine-beast-order/ https://attackofthefanboy.com/guides/the-legend-of-zelda-breath-of-the-wild-guide-what-is-the-best-divine-beast-order/#comments Fri, 03 Mar 2017 19:33:12 +0000 http://attackofthefanboy.com/?p=647187
zelda-breath-of-the-wild-divine-beast-order

The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild changes almost everything you’ve come to expect from the series. This extends from the basic principles of gameplay all the way to the dungeons, which have been an important staple for the series since the first game hit the NES. The biggest shift from more recent titles is the fact that you can take on the four main dungeons in any order that you want. This presents you with a lot of choices, so we’re here to help. Here’s our recommendation for what is the best Divine Beast order in The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild.

This recommendation comes after completing all four Divine Beast dungeons. We’ll have walkthroughs up soon, so watch for them and we will be sure to link them here as well. An important point is that the order should be changed depending on your own circumstances and what you want from the game. For example, our first recommendation is based on the idea that you will want to be more capable, making the game a bit easier. If you want to keep the challenge high then you should make sure to turn off the special ability you receive at the end of the dungeon.

So, here’s our recommendation for what is the best Divine Beast order in Breath of the Wild.

Divine Beast Vah Ruta – Zora Dungeon

Walkthrough: Click here

Location: Eastmost Divine Beast

This is likely the easiest dungeon to complete for a number of reasons. First is that the puzzles aren’t too tough, with players only getting stuck on a couple of spots throughout the whole thing. It is also easily accessible from the starting area. If you follow the main quest line you should end up in the east, which puts you just south of Divine Beast Vah Ruta. You won’t have to cross any freezing or hot areas, so you won’t need any special potions or equipment either.

Finally the special reward for completing the Divine Beast Vah Ruta dungeon is extremely helpful throughout the rest of the game. What it does is essentially a super-powered fairy revive. Once your hearts hit zero you will be revived at full health with an additional five temporary hearts on top. It will take a long time to recharge, but it is vastly important in later boss battles and areas.

Divine Beast Vah Medoh – Ritu Dungeon

Walkthrough: Coming Soon

Location: North-West Divine Beast

This one comes with a caveat. Divine Beast Vah Medoh is hard to get to, and you will need to be able to survive the cold. We laid out exactly how to do this in this guide, but you’ll need more than just a couple of hot peppers to make it to and through this Divine Beast. You’ll want to buy the Ritu clothin that is offered in the shop near the top of their village. This means you need a ton of rupees, over a thousand actually. So, make sure you have that, or can have it soon before deciding to take this one on. If you do have over a thousand rupees then you should definitely head to this Divine Beast, and here’s why.

Divine Beast Vah Medoh is almost easier than Vah Ruta. You should be able to get through this dungeon without any trouble, as long as you have figured out how the mechanics of the dungeons work, such as moving between orientations. And finally, the special ability you get for completing Divine Beast Vah Medoh is helpful for exploring the overworld more, and will be useful in a number of ways going forward.

zelda-breath-of-the-wild-divine-beast-vah-rudania

Divine Beast Vah Rudania – Goron Dungeon

Walkthrough: Click Here

Location: North-East Divine Beast

I would actually recommend waiting a while to take on this Divine Beast, mostly because it requires another thousand plus rupees in order to complete. You need plenty of Flame Guard potions or meals to get to the Goron city, and once there you need to purchase a set of armor once again. Still, this armor will be helpful for the next dungeon, so it makes sense to hit this one next anyway. Just try to grab all the jewels and valuable items you can, and do some side missions, then head to Death Mountain to take on Divine Beast Vah Rudania. The special ability gained by completing Divine Beast Vah Rudania is great too, giving you a big advantage in some of the upcoming boss battles.

Divine Beast Vah Naboris – Gerudo Dungeon

Walkthrough: Coming Soon

Location: Westmost Divine Beast

Finally head to the desert and into Gerudo territory for the fourth and final Divine Beast dungeon, Vah Naboris. This is last simply due to the others being better suited to early game access. You’ll need to cross the desert, so have a horse and your Flame Guard gear ready for the trek. It is also one of the toughest dungeons in The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild. It’s special ability is likely the worst as well, so getting it early isn’t all that helpful.

And that’s our favored order for taking on The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild’s four Divine Beast dungeons. If you think we should mix up the order, or you found something better, be sure to let us know in the comments below.

The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild has four main dungeons, here called Divine Beasts. These dungeons can be tackled in any order that you’d like. We gave our recommendation for the best order in this guide, and first up was Divine Beast Vah Ruta. To help you through it I prepared this walkthrough of the dungeon, which is likely the easiest you’ll run into in The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild.

Usually we write all of these steps out, but for Breath of the Wild I wanted to do a video guide. This one was recorded after completing the dungeon, so the puzzles have been reset a bit. My commentary should help you out though, and the result is an easier and quicker guide for you. The future Divine Beast walkthroughs will be a bit longer, mostly because the dungeons only get harder from here.

The key to understanding Divine Beast Vah Ruta is the trunk, which you can set to various positions. Water is spewing from the tip of the trunk, and you will need to use this to spin giant wheels, as well as get it into specific positions for you to jump on and off of the trunk. This is great info to keep in mind for future Divine Beast dungeons as well. This one is actually the one that gives you the most options, but it is far from the most complex.

We also have a guide for how to beat Waterblight Ganon, the final boss of Divine Beast Vah Ruta. Since we recorded the walkthrough after completing the dungeon, we didn’t have video of the battle, so click above to check out that separate guide. Let us know in the comments if you have any other Breath of the Wild questions.

It’s the most iconic weapon in all of gaming. The Master Sword has been a part of The Legend of Zelda since the beginning, and as the games have continued it has only become more important. It’s the blade you need in order to truly defeat Ganon, and it plays a big role once again in Breath of the Wild. However, the open nature of the new game doesn’t point you toward the Master Sword like the previous games did. So we’re here with a couple of guides for it. Here’s where to find the Master Sword in The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild.

As expected from both the images that we’ve seen so far and the general theme of the Master Sword’s many locations, it can be found deep within a forest. To find this forest you simply need to head toward Hyrule Castle. The Master Sword is hidden deep within the Kokiri Forest, which is just east of the castle. You’ll know it when you see it, but look for a large forest that is shrouded in mist and fog.

This area of the game isn’t quite as open as the rest, locking you into the Lost Woods, which you have to navigate using various methods. We’ve put together a special guide for this, which you can read through right here. Once you are through the Lost Woods you’ll come to the heart of the Kokiri Forest, with the Great Deku Tree watching over a pedestal that contains the Master Sword.

The Great Deku Tree will explain to you that the Master Sword is waiting for the one who is worthy to wield it. That is obviously you, but you’ll still have to prove it. You can go ahead and try to pull the Master Sword from the pedestal, but you will almost certainly fail. Want to know how to get the Master Sword in The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild? We’ve got a guide for that too.

Ah the Lost Woods, the tune from Ocarina of Time has been stuck in my head for almost two decades now. The reason? Because the Lost Woods is usually a place where you get, well, lost. Stuck in an endless loop of caverns and openings; make one wrong step and you end up back at the beginning again. This is true once again in Breath of the Wild, but we’re here to help you through. Here’s our guide on how to get through the Lost Woods in The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, which is important since it’s where you get a pretty important item.

First off, I’m trying to help, not totally lay out the steps with this guide. Discovering things is part of the magic that made Breath of the Wild one of the best reviewed games of all time. So, to avoid spoiling the whole experience, I’m instead going to give you tips for how to get through the two main sections of the Lost Woods. This really should be enough to get you through, but if you need extra help just leave a comment below and I’ll answer your questions.

So, how to get through the Lost Woods in Breath of the Wild. The secret is the wind. Specifically the wind will show you the path that you want to follow. In the first section you can essentially move from torch to torch, but at a point you won’t be able to see the next step of the path. This is when you need to watch the wind, which will be sending embers into the air from the torches. Look for the direction that the embers are flying in and follow that.

Soon you will reach the second section of the Lost Woods. To get through this you need to create your own fire, since the torches will be gone. Either equip a torch or wooden weapon, or find one nearby. There should be plenty right near the entrance. Light the torch and carry it with you, making sure to stop often to make sure you are still following the path the embers are laying out for you. If you’re heading toward a tree, or you see a large open section nearby, it’s a good hint that you should stop and see where the embers are still flying.

And that’s it for now on how to get through the Lost Woods in The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild. We’ll update this guide if people are still having trouble, so let us know in the comments.

The Master Sword. As soon as you begin a new game in The Legend of Zelda series you start to wonder when you’ll be getting this iconic blade. Some games skip it, like Majora’s Mask. Others embrace it, making it a huge part of the story and experience. Breath of the Wild is somewhere in the middle. You definitely want to get it, which is why we showed you where to find the Master Sword, but it actually tests you to make sure you are worthy. So, here’s our guide on how to get the Master Sword in The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild.

I wanted to call this something else, but also wanted to avoid spoilers. So, take that as a warning, this is a little spoilery, as it describes a test that will be applied to those who want to wield the Master Sword in Breath of the Wild. If you want everything to be a surprise, then you shouldn’t be here anymore, so I’m going to move forward assuming that everyone wants to know exactly how to get the Master Sword in The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild.

Hearts. You need lots and lots of heart. “How many hearts do you need to get the Master Sword” is the better question. The answer is 13. As we said in our Breath of the Wild Beginner’s Guide, after collecting Spiritual Stones you have a choice of whether to up your stamina or get another heart container. Hopefully you heeded our advice and went with hearts every time, because you have to have at least 13 available hearts to pull the Master Sword out of its pedestal.

And don’t go chugging potions or eating a bunch of food that raises your max hearts. These do not count, they will simply be removed as soon as you put your hands onto the Master Sword. You need to hit tons of shrines, then use the stones you get as a reward to raise your maximum heart level to 13. Head to the Kokiri Forest and give it a shot. It should look something like below, where I had the exact number of hearts needed to wield the blade. An additional spoiler warning: the video also has the cutscene from right after.

And that’s it for how to get the Master Sword in The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild.

The Legend of Zelda series has never been one to avoid going a bit “radical”. We had snowboarding in Twilight Princess, various other extreme racing challenges in other games, and now we have shield surfing in Breath of the Wild. The feature was shown off a lot before the game came out, but surprisingly there isn’t an immediate tutorial on how to pull the maneuver off, instead relying on players to stumble across an NPC in the wild. We’ll be that NPC for you though with our guide on how to shield surf in The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild.

The move is actually pretty easy to pull off, but first a few caveats. You need a decently sized shield to do it, something that Link can jump on and ride. It is also important to note that doing this across rough terrain will deplete your shield’s durability. Stick to hillsides and grassy areas, unless you have a junk shield that’s ready to be broken.

So, how do you shield surf in Breath of the Wild? Easy, just pull up your shield with the ZL button, hold it down then press the jump button and quickly press A. Doing this, you should hop right onto the shield and begin surfing. Of course, you’ll want to move forward quickly when you do it first, and try to be on a sloped surface. On flat areas you will propel forward a bit, but you’ll lose all momentum pretty quickly.

Using the shield surf maneuver in The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild you can escape from enemies, cross terrain quickly, or just look really cool. I’ve also found it useful for when I need to cross large gaps, such as the mud traps you’ll find in some areas. It just gets you a bit further out than if you simply jumped across the area.

That’s it for how to shield surf in The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild.

Legend-of-Zelda-3

It’s finally here. Nintendo fans have waited, gobbling up every piece of promotional material, watching every E3 stream, and scouring the internet for leaks. After years of this, The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild is actually here in our hands. Whether you get the game on Nintendo Switch or Wii U, you will be blown away by the many ways the game can surprise you. To help you in those first critical hours, we’ve put together this The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild beginner’s guide, full of tips for getting started in Nintendo’s massive game.

These tips are going to avoid spoilers completely, so feel safe reading them all. They are based on over 50 hours with the final game, which our review called on of the greatest games of all time. You will almost certainly love it, but the opening hours can be rough as you acclimate to the new formula that this game presents you with. So, here’s our tips for getting started in The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild.

Go Slow, Take Your Time

This is tip #1 for a reason. It is critical for a number of reasons that you should go slow in Breath of the Wild. This is for a number of reasons, including the fact that after the opening area you are able to go anywhere on the map. You won’t really want to do this though. Instead you’ll want to explore the area, maybe head toward the town described in the main quest, or just take a look at the zones around the Great Plateau, exploring, learning, and figuring out how this game will work.

It’s also important to just take your time and look around, appreciating everything that has went into this game. Breath of the Wild is a gorgeous experience in a number of ways. It is endlessly immersive, and features surprises around every corner. If you’re rushing through it, trying to take on Ganon as quickly as possible, you’re going to miss out. Besides, you’ll want to drink this whole game in and actually look back at key moments.

Remember Your ABC’s

No, not the alphabet, and not “always be closing.” You’re not a salesman. Instead I have two tips for you to always keep in mind while playing The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild. The first is: always be climbing. Climbing is a bit of a new mechanic in BotW, letting players literally get anywhere they want to go, as long as they climb effectively. But if you’ve played tons of Zelda games in the past, you’re kind of trained to see walls as walls and mountains as impenetrable things that you have to figure out some trick to get around. Not so with The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild.

Instead, if you run into a mountain you can just climb it. Run into a wall? Climb it. Want to see more of the surrounding area? You get the point. Still, it can’t be overemphasized just how big and important climbing is to the experience of The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild. You need to learn how to do it well, how high you can climb for the stamina that you have, and what paths are best to take on mountains.

Next is to “always be cooking”. If you don’t know how to do this check out this guide, and this one that explains the better uses for cooking. Cooking is also new to the Zelda series, and it offers the best way for players to survive, even when they accidentally venture into tougher areas than they’re ready for. While adventuring around Hyrule you should be gathering up any item you see, as your ingredient inventory is limitless. Then whenever you run across a cooking pot you should stop and cook up anything and everything you have.

Mess around with this, combining items that might be beneficial to each other. Stack heart filling items with status stuff, always keeping in mind that Zelda’s cooking is based off of reality. Don’t go mixing everything, you need to think like an actual chef, putting items together that will work in a full meal.

Don’t Worry About Stamina, Stick with Hearts

Speaking of stamina, it’s a really important part of your character. It determines how far you can swim, how high you can climb, and how far you can glide. Still, after completing Shrines and visiting a Goddess statue you will be given the choice of whether to up your stamina gauge, or to get another heart container. Despite how important stamina is, my recommendation is to stick with hearts for a long time. I don’t want to give a reason, or a specific number, but choose hearts almost every time you can. I went with stamina one time before completing the game’s main mission, and that seemed to work well, but I could have went without the stamina boost a bit earlier. You can change your decisions later on, but at a cost, so just do what you think is best, which is likely to get more heart containers.

the-legend-of-zelda-breath-of-the-wild-beginners-guide

Don’t Worry About the Main Quest

Once you escape the Great Plateau you are given the main quest for The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild. You should follow this to start things off, as it gets you to a pretty safe and interesting area. Once you get there though, and start to get your bearings, you can quickly abandon the main quest and focus on side jobs or just exploring. Don’t go way too far, instead take your time and investigate anything interesting that you come across, especially Shrines.

Always go for the Tower

The Legend of Zelda: Breath fo the Wild pioneers a lot of things for the open-world genre, but it’s also not afraid to borrow from its contemporaries. It does this in a number of ways, but the biggest is by having towers that you climb to pull in map data for the area. These are crucial to your exploration of Hyrule, and you should always go to them whenever you spot them and are near enough that it’s not a hassle. The map data is always helpful, giving you the lay of the land, and pointing you toward milestones. It also helps to be up so high, which you can then jump down from, using the paraglider to reach areas far from the tower. Before you do this though, you should scout around with your binoculars, tagging any Shrines or other spots you want to check out.

Stealth is your Friend

Breath of the Wild also adds in a lot more stealth abilities for Link. Stumbling across a group of Bokoblin usually results in immediate combat, but if you are quiet, careful, and slow you can usually swing some type of advantage your way. Either sneaking up for a first-strike, stealing their weapons so they have to fight you barehanded, or using some object in the environment to make fighting not even necessary. Remember your abilities here as well, sometimes you’ll find things you can manipulate or blow up.

the-legend-of-zelda-breath-of-the-wild-review3

Horses are Great, but not too Important

Shortly after leaving the Great Plateau, Breath of the Wild will introduce you to horses. You can catch, tame, and ride these wild beasts, making travel faster and simpler. Here’s our guide on how to do that, in case you didn’t get to the tutorial. However, it is only helpful when you are in and travelling to an area that is accessible by horse. With climbing being so important to the Breath of the Wild experience, this is often not the case. Instead, fast traveling to completed Shrines is much faster, and then using the paraglider when possible will usually get you where you want to go. Still, you should have a good stable of reliable horses, so be sure to grab a couple of good ones and store them at the stables.

That’s it for now, but we’ll update this article with any other tips and tricks that we come up with for beginners of The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild. Let us know in the comments if you have any questions, or any tips of your own.

The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild changes so much about the Zelda formula that we’ve grown accustomed to over these last couple of decades. It’s still a fantasy adventure, but in a lot of ways it is a more realistic experience, with Link affecting and being affected by the environment. This starts early, with the opening hour taking place on the Plateau, a starting area that teaches you many things about the game. Here you will encounter, for the first time, how the environment can impact you. To help you make it, we put together this quick guide on how to survive the cold in The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild.

There’s two main ways to survive the cold in Breath of the Wild. The first is one that won’t be accessible to you until later on, which is to buy a certain type of clothing that will let you withstand the cold without a problem. More on this later, because I’m guessing that you want to know the method that’s available to you right away, on the Plateau.

To survive the cold in Breath of the Wild you can also cook specific dishes that will heat you up, making it so you can wander through the snow for minutes at a time, without taking damage. You can do this in an area that’s just behind and to the west of the dilapidated Temple of Time. Here you’ll see a gate leading into the snowy mountains, beside the gate are some Spicy Peppers. Grab them and head north a bit to find a Bokoblin camp.

At the camp is more Spicy Peppers and a cooking stove. Be sure to kill the Bokoblins, obviously, and grab the torch that sits nearby. Equip it as a weapon and swing it at the nearby fire to light it, then swing it at the stove to light the fire under that. You can now cook. We have a separate guide explaining how to cook in Breath of the Wild, but here’s a quick rundown for the cold survival meal.

Go into your inventory and select the hot pepper, then choose hold. You can now cook one pepper for 2.5 minutes of heat, or hold more to add additional time. I usually go with 2 at a time, cooking them all into 5 minute meals. Once you have the number of peppers you want, just walk up to the stove and press A when it changes to “Cook”. Link will drop them in and they’ll cook up into a nice cold survival stew.

Another method that doesn’t really count since it is tough to pull of is to simply sprint from fire to fire. You can light your own fire if you have a bundle of wood and some flint, but it’s just not as feasible as the other methods listed here.

That’s it for how to survive the cold in The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild. Let us know if you need help with anything else in the game.

zelda-breath-of-the-wild-how-to-cook

The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild adds a lot of new mechanics to the series that we haven’t seen before. Some are important and tough to figure out, while others are trivial. One of the more important new elements is cooking food, which allows you to concoct special meals that boost your health, or give you special powers, like surviving the cold. But the way you do it can be a bit hard to understand at first, so here’s our guide on how to cook in The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild.

To cook in Breath of the Wild, you first need two things, food and a stove. Food can be found everywhere throughout the world, so just watch for the tiny sparkle that indicates something you can pick up. Once you do, the game will provide you with a short description of what the item will give you, if cooked into a dish. This usually involved filling up your available hearts, but some items will give special boosts, including heat resistance, stamina effects, or even raising your overall heart count temporarily.

Each dish can only have one single effect on top of refilling your hearts, so don’t combine items unless you don’t care which effect takes precedence. For example, if you take a stamina boosting mushroom and a heat resistant lizard and cook them into the same dish, only one of these things will end up in the final meal.

Decide what ingredients you want, with a maximum of five, and select each individually, choosing “Hold” from the submenu. The cooking system in The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild is fun, but it’s not ridiculously robust, so don’t worry too much about getting five items every time. Stacking items usually just stacks their effects, without a benefit to bulk use. For example, peppers that let you resist the cold each contribute 2.5 minutes to the timer, so putting five into a dish just makes for less menu interaction. However, there is a random boost sometimes, and having more items might trigger that more often, but I wouldn’t waste stuff trying for that bonus.

Once you have your ingredients in hand you need to walk up to a lit stove. These are found in camps, towns, and pretty much anywhere where people or Bokoblins dwell. If it’s not lit, you cannot cook on it, but using any piece of wooden equipment on a fire and then on the stove should fix that. Once lit just walk up to the stove and hit A when it changes to “Cook”. You’ll drop the items in and cook them up.

If you simply don’t have access to a stove you can still do some cooking by simply placing ingredients into nearby fire. This works best for meats, but you will not get the same boosts to the effects as you would if you used an actual cooking pot.

And that’s how to cook in The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild. Let us know if you need help with anything else in the game.

Ever since the introduction of Epona, The Legend of Zelda series has made horses a huge part of the gameplay experience. While we mention in our Beginner’s Guide that horses aren’t quite as useful as you might think, they are still an important part of the game, and something you’ll want to work on getting. If you speak to the right people, they’ll tell you how to catch a horse, but with the freedom this game gives you, you might miss it. So we’ll tell you. Here’s our guide on how to catch a horse in The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild. We’ll also explain some spots where you can find them.

The method is actually pretty instinctive, fitting with the idea that these are wild beast. As Link you want to locate a group of horses, which apparently is referred to as a “team” or “harras”, so now you’ve learned your odd fact for the day. Once you do find the horse you want to catch you need to sneak up on them. Click the left thumbstick to crouch, but you still need to keep an eye on your sound meter in the bottom left of the screen.

Move slowly toward the horse, making sure that you are behind them and they cannot see you. If they move too much just sit still for a bit. Get close enough and the A button prompt will change to “Mount”. Press it and you’ll grab onto the horse and hop on his back. You can now ride away, though you’ll want to hit the L button to calm the horse whenever he does something good, such as sprinting after you hit A.

As far as where to find horses in The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild. The two quickest spots are right in front of the Great Plateau, just hop down to the north and look for the very open field. Others are found past the Twin Peaks that the main quest directs you to. In general, horses in Breath of the Wild are found in these open fields of grass. Watch for them and head toward them whenever you want to catch a wild horse.
