This week Xbox 360 players will get their first crack at new maps for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3. Similar to previous DLC releases in the past, Activision and Infinity Ward have bundled a bunch of multiplayer goodness to freshen up the Modern Warfare 3 experience for the first time since the game’s November ’11 launch. The first map pack includes four Multiplayer and two new Spec Ops maps, which many fans of the series have praised for their smart layouts and interesting locales.

You shouldn’t pass on Modern Warfare 3’s Content Collection #1 for any reason related to quality. If you play Call of Duty Modern Warfare 3 with any sense of regularity, you’ll more than get your monies worth. However, that money could be much better spent on a subscription to the Call of Duty: Elite service.

Around launch, Call of Duty: Elite had its issues, there’s no doubt about that. As the service has evolved, Activision has ironed out the kinks and even added a bunch of functionality to go alongside your “Season Pass” for new monthly content. Clan, Stats, Tournaments and more are in full swing for the shooter, but only for those that enrolled in the premium Call of Duty: Elite subscription.

Modern Warfare 3’s Content Collection #1 arrives on March 20th for $14.99 on Xbox Live, but if you’re planning on taking your Call of Duty experience any further, the smart money is in an Elite Subscription which’ll get you all the content before anyone else for $49.99.

If you decide to forgo Call of Duty: Elite and still purchase Content Collection #1, you’ll be kicking yourself later.
