Elden-Ring

Players returning to Limgrave for another exciting Elden Ring adventure were over the moon at the release of Update 1.07. Not only did it bring some much-needed balance to some of the encounters that players would strive to live through, but it also brought many other changes to the magnum opus that FromSoftware put out earlier this year.

While players may be eager to learn what Update 1.07.1 brings to the table, it’s nowhere near as meaty as the previous patch. However, there is a specific change that may bring joy to players, so let’s strap on our best gear and head deep into the world of Elden Ring to see what was fixed up with the newest update to the game!

Elden Ring Version 1.07.1 Patch Notes

Ash of War – Endure

  • Shortened effect duration. Adjustments made in patch 1.07 had a greater impact on the game balance than expected.

Incantation – Inescapable Frenzy

  • Fixed a bug where the FP consumption was not properly reduced in patch 1.07.

Additional information

  • The version number of this update shown at the lower right corner of the Title Screen will be as follows:
    • App Ver. 1.07
    • Regulation Ver. 1.07.1
  • The incantation Flame of the Fell God and Gurranq’s Beast Claw cannot be charged; patch notes were edited accordingly.
  •  The incantation Black Blade is currently missing its follow-up attack when cast from the left hand. This issue will be corrected in a future update.
  •  We will continue to provide game balance updates in the future to improve your ELDEN RING experience.

While it may not be as substantial, you’ll still find a few things to get excited about with this new update. As we continue our journies through the lands that never end, you’ll need all of the help you can get on your adventure. These updates may be small, but their impact will be felt by plenty of gamers across the globe.

Make sure you’re studying up on our Elden Ring Guide Section, where you’ll be able to learn if there is any DLC or Expansions on the way, the best settings to enjoy Elden Ring on your Steam Deck, and the best Ring Incantations and Sorceries in the game!

Will There Be Elden Ring DLC or Expansion? https://attackofthefanboy.com/gaming/will-there-be-elden-ring-dlc-or-expansion/ https://attackofthefanboy.com/gaming/will-there-be-elden-ring-dlc-or-expansion/#respond Thu, 13 Oct 2022 18:18:49 +0000 https://attackofthefanboy.com/?p=862734
Elden-Ring

Elden Ring has managed to retain a considerable player base. The game launched in February 2022 and is still one of the Steam games with the largest player base, with more than 20 thousand players on its servers at all times. The game made by From Software is everything but slim when it comes to content. Though many players are still enjoying this game months after its release, and some of them are starting to wonder if there is going to be an Elden Ring DLC or expansion.

Will There Be Elden Ring DLC or Expansion?

According to recent discoveries, Elden Ring fans may be getting a DLC or expansion. On October 13, Twitter users Lance McDonald and Sennoutantei shared some information found in Elden Ring’s update 1.10. According to the leak, the users found a couple of maps called “M20” and “M45” alongside some code strings relating to Ray Tracing. Since Elden Ring’s release, the developers have not made a single announcement regarding a DLC or expansion for the game, and with this new leak, there is a meaningful possibility of this happening.

On Twitter, the feedback has been tame, and the same can be said when it comes to Elden Ring’s subreddit. The tweet has not gotten much attention yet, so it is a matter of time until fans of the game find it. In the past players on Reddit have made dozens of posts exploring the idea of a DLC that expands the game’s lore, weapons, and more. So is safe to say that the Elden Ring community will be more than happy with a leak like this.

Many From Software titles have gotten DLCs after their releases, so the idea of having an Elden Ring DLC is not out of the question. Maybe with a leak like this, From Software decides to open up about their plans with Elden Ring. All players can do right now is wait until the game’s developers release an official statement about the recent leaks.

Elden Ring gathered a lot of positive reviews when it came out, and the number of players that are still playing the game is the true testimony of the remarkable experience created by From Software. So if you have not given Elden Ring a chance, make sure you read any of the Elden Ring reviews around the web.

Elden Ring is available now on PC, PlayStation 4 and 5, Xbox One, and Series X|S. For more information about the game, players can go to Elden Ring’s official Twitter page.

What are the biggest changes coming in Elden Ring patch 1.07? https://attackofthefanboy.com/guides/what-are-the-biggest-changes-coming-in-elden-ring-patch-1-07/ https://attackofthefanboy.com/guides/what-are-the-biggest-changes-coming-in-elden-ring-patch-1-07/#respond Thu, 13 Oct 2022 17:05:30 +0000 https://attackofthefanboy.com/?p=862715
Elden-Ring-Patch-Notes-1.07-Official-Image

Patch 1.07 for Elden Ring will arguably set the groundwork for the game’s capability of creating different experiences for its separate audiences. Elden Ring, shares a common trend with the Souls series and Bloodborne in that its active online player count is sustained by players that engage in the cooperative or PvP experience the game has to offer. PvP in particular has led to fighting hotspots before the gates of major story bosses, where people wage combat and test out new builds, leading to regular balance patches. Patch 1.07 looks to differentiate the PvP and PvE player experience as a result.

Significant Changes for patch 1.07 of Elden Ring

Simply put, the game will separate the damage scaling on weapons, skills, spells, and incantations for PvP and PvE from patch 1.07 onward. Making it so players using the same build will be at different power levels depending on whether or not they are engaging another hostile player in combat, or if they are fighting against a boss by themselves or with a friend. This feature will likely allow developers to tweak parameters without making it difficult for players dealing with tough boss battles using tailored or overpowered builds in single or coop play.

Arguably, this should come as a beneficial change overall as this will diversify Player/AI difficulty for experienced veterans active in Elden Ring, and keep difficulty consistent for newcomers and returning players who might have struggled as a result of the numerous balance patches that have maintained power balance for the PvP sphere, at the potential expense of PvE cheese and voiding existing boss fight strategies.

Other changes of interest that apply to the general environment include buffs to colossal weapon attack speeds while nerfing crouch poke and rolling recovery attacks. Accompanying that is a general increase in the poise value that most armor pieces will provide to players, which might not lead to hyper armor, but helps to provide more value to heavy armor sets that exist in-game.

It is interesting to note that the majority of spells and incantations seen in the balance list are seeing buffs, with only a select few receiving rebalances or nerfs. The same can be said for Weapon Skills and Ashes of War.

Hopefully, these changes will lead to more build diversity across the board for PvE and PvP players, and fewer community disagreements regarding how the balancing of the game should be handled and whether the game should cater to player duelists or RPG enthusiasts.

Players should check the official patch notes for a detailed list of the changes implemented.

Elden Ring is available now on PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, and PC.

Best Elden Ring Steam Deck Settings https://attackofthefanboy.com/guides/best-elden-ring-steam-deck-settings/ https://attackofthefanboy.com/guides/best-elden-ring-steam-deck-settings/#respond Wed, 28 Sep 2022 01:01:33 +0000 https://attackofthefanboy.com/?p=859277
steam-deck-elden-ring

To this day, Elden Ring stands as one of the most beloved games of all time. The massive world it offers is nothing short of impressive. What’s perhaps even more impressive is the fact that it runs on so many platforms, from gaming PCs and next-gen consoles to PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. The most surprising console it’s able to run on is the Steam Deck, Valve’s handheld gaming device. It’s been preconfigured from launch to work perfectly with the Deck, though a massive game like this might still have some performance issues — especially for those looking to squeeze battery life out of their device. Players should be aware of the best settings for Elden Ring on the Steam Deck both inside and outside of the game itself.

Which Settings to Change for Elden Ring on Steam Deck

Rather than changing Elden Ring’s in-game settings, you should access the Performance tab on your Steam Deck to change settings related to the device. This can be accessed by pressing the button with the three dots on the right face of your Deck. From there, scroll down to the Battery icon to access Performance options. You’ll be given not much more than the Performance Overlay Level at first, but if you hit the Advanced View button, you’ll gain access to a plethora of options. Here are the most relevant options for Elden Ring:

  • Use per-game profile: Allows you to affix these changes only to Elden Ring.
  • Framerate Limit: Lets you change the target framerate that Elden Ring should run at. Since it’s such a massive game, you might consider turning the setting down to 30 to have a more stable experience. If you decide to alter Refresh Rate, you might prefer to bring it down to 40 or even 50 instead, especially if you use other settings to bring out the most performance you can.
  • Scaling Filter: Allows you to change various scaling options. FSR is the one you’ll want to use, as it provides the greatest performance increase at the cost of overall visual quality.

These are the most useful settings to change on the Steam Deck itself. These alterations can be very impactful to performance without risking stability of the system. Of course, following the best settings for Elden Ring on PC will also help performance, but you should maximize the Deck’s Performance Overlay Level before you start messing with that. This will give you a real-time display of both the game’s performance and the Deck’s stability as you change settings. Quality settings will hit Elden Ring the hardest due to its massive level of detail, but if you’re willing to sacrifice it for performance, you might even be able to reach a stable 60 FPS!

Elden Ring is available on PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, and PC. The Steam Version of Elden Ring is Steam Deck Verified.

Best Elden Ring Incantations and Sorceries https://attackofthefanboy.com/guides/best-elden-ring-incantations-and-sorceries/ https://attackofthefanboy.com/guides/best-elden-ring-incantations-and-sorceries/#respond Sat, 20 Aug 2022 03:09:16 +0000 https://attackofthefanboy.com/?p=851491 The Lands Between is the dangerous world seen in Elden Ring, the most acclaimed game so far in 2022. When preparing yourself in the From Software masterpiece, you’ll want to make a build that will protect you not only from the deadly bosses but even other players looking to invade your session. While some might opt for a physical build, accommodated by the many wonderful weapons in the game, others will choose a magic build featuring some of the most potent sorceries and incantations you can find in the game. Read on for our picks of the Best Elden Ring Incantations and Sorceries!

Best Elden Ring Incantations and Sorceries

We have gone ahead and separated the lists of Incantations and Sorceries in Elden Ring, each featuring a mixture of prominent abilities used either in PvP or PvE.  The entries are listed based on how well they can fit either of these purposes and due to the nature of their uses being mixed, they will not be ranked above or below each other.  Read on for our lists below:

Elden Ring | Best Incantations

Below are some of the best incantations in Elden Ring, with a variety of uses and combat styles accommodated:

Black Blade

Elden-Ring-Black-Blade

Aside from a killer name, Black Blade is a powerful one with a worthwhile use on the battlefield. This grants you a powerful blade with which you spin through the air, dealing 100% holy damage to enemies, sapping their health, and reducing their maximum HP by 10% for 15 seconds. This is stackable with Destined Death and can be immensely helpful against bulky late-game bosses, and is an all-around handy ability to have if you’re looking to break down your opponent and reduce their defensive advantage.

Aspect of the Crucible: Tail

Elden-Ring-Aspect-of-the-Crucible-Tail

This incantation is dropped by the Crucible Knight as he appears at the Stormhill Evergaol. It is a dragon-based incantation, summoning a large tail with which you can whip your opponents to the point of causing knockback when fully charged, giving you control over the flow of battle.

Golden Vow

Elden-Ring-Golden-Vow-1280x720

Golden Vow is a valuable asset for any Faith-based player’s loadout, not only because it can boost your attack and defense, but also that of your allies if you’re preparing to fight a tough boss or invader. Make sure to incorporate some Dexterity into your build so that if you need to recast and keep this buff up, you aren’t waiting too long. In many ways, for any player using incantations in Elden Ring, this might simply be the best one available by just how helpful it is, but others deal more immediate damage.

Swarm of Flies

Elden-Ring-Swarm-of-Flies

An asset in PvE, the Swarm of Flies incantation is deadly for inflicting the invaluable status ailment of Blood Loss. It can take down mighty foes once it stacks enough, and despite its projectile being slow on the approach, there’s no way to deny the awesome feeling when the bleed kicks in and the enemy’s HP loses a huge chunk. This has even been deployed as an easy way to chip away at Malenia, one of the most famous and hardest bosses in the game.

Beast Claw

Elden-Ring-Beast-Claw

A fantastic incantation acquired by completing Gurranq’s questline, the Beast Claw is immensely powerful, can have its range and power adjusted by charging the incantation longer, and can break down the defenses of those it is used against. It’s an asset to use, has a quick wind-up, and is deadly to your foes. Beastly indeed.

Elden Ring | Best Sorceries

For those using their trusty glintstone staff instead of a seal, sorceries are a powerful offensive asset and can be deadly not only to bosses but to other players in the game.  Below are our picks for some of the best sorceries in Elden Ring:

Adula’s Moonblade

Adulas-Moonblade

On the sorcery side of things, this spell conjures up an icy blade to deal with frostbite damage to enemies nearby and is quick to use, placing it high on many ‘best spells’ lists. For those outside the regular striking range of this attack, they’ll still be in the range of the deadly arcs that shoot from the blade as it is swung, increasing its versatility. In virtually every way, this is the superior variant of the greatswords you can conjure via sorcery.

Glintstone Arc

Elden-Ring-Glintstone-Arc

For those still playing the game early on, they might notice this sorcery is attained in the initial parts of the game, giving you a cheap method to dispatch groups of enemies. This can alternately be used to trip up opponents that otherwise would dodge-roll to sidestep regular glintstone attacks, and it scales well with Intelligence allowing you to keep it well into later parts of the game as versatile, bread-and-butter sorcery. Any of the other sorceries in its family, such as Glintstone Cometshard or Pebble, are also highly acceptable.

Loretta’s Greatbow

Elden-Ring-Royal-Knight-Loretta

For those looking to have a solid first-strike advantage in any confrontation, especially when they are facing a tough foe that can’t be snuck up on, look no further than Loretta’s Greatbow. A charged shot from this, or Loretta’s Mastery (a more powerful version from later on in the game) will prove deadly and allows you to draw the enemy aggro while prepping either a different spell or swapping to your melee weapons to fight up close. This serves as a perfect surgical strike method, damaging exactly what you set out to hit with it.

Ranni’s Dark Moon

Elden-Ring-Rannis-Dark-Moon

While this attack is trickier to maneuver than Loretta’s Greatbow and has a significant windup phase, it is deadly for splash damage as a fire-and-forget spell against smaller foes or powerful bosses. This move can add deadly amounts of frostbite damage and even lower the enemy’s magic negation stats, so it’s a powerful weapon you can use multiple times for full effect before going on a close-range magic offensive.

Comet Azur

Comet-Azur

Could there be any other sorcery here on the list? Comet Azur is the sorcery that seemingly broke the internet when it was found, creating a deadly blue beam of glintstone energy which, at the high cost of FP, could be sustained to shatter enemy boss HP until opponents are vaporized. It’s certainly not a helpful tool in PvP, but is devastating as an asset for PvE enjoyers wishing to progress through the game, and is remarkably easy to use on big foes.

This concludes our list of the Best Elden Ring Incantations and Sorceries! Be sure to check out our other guides on the game, and see how particularly strong builds can be when using incantations like Black Blade!

Elden Ring was released on February 25, 2022, for PC, PlayStation 4 and 5, Xbox One, and Series X|S.

Does Dexterity Increase Attack Speed in Elden Ring? Explained https://attackofthefanboy.com/guides/does-dexterity-increase-attack-speed-in-elden-ring-explained/ https://attackofthefanboy.com/guides/does-dexterity-increase-attack-speed-in-elden-ring-explained/#respond Thu, 21 Jul 2022 20:26:00 +0000 https://attackofthefanboy.com/?p=847153
Does-Dexterity-increase-attack-speed-in-Elden-Ring

One thing that Elden Ring doesn’t do very often is to hold your hand. You have to seek tutorials, routes, and explanations for many things without them being shoved into your face. This also includes knowing what each stat does and how they affect your gameplay when you level them up. For instance, Dexterity is considered one of the best overall stats, but what does it do? Does Dexterity increase attack speed in Elden Ring? Here, we’ll go over what the stat does.

Does Dexterity Increase Attack Speed in Elden Ring?

In short, Dexterity does not increase attack speed. What it does instead is reduces spell casting times, lessen fall damage, and make you more resistant to getting knocked off Torrent. Also, it’s one of the more versatile stats because it’s used in a majority of the weapons as a required stat and for attribute scaling.

There’s a lot of talk about Dexterity being one of the best stats because it is versatile. If you’re a magic user, you can pick up other weapons that scale with Faith or Intelligence so you won’t have to dip into another stat that doesn’t benefit your build. The same applies if you take a more melee-focused route.

Another reason for Dexterity being one of the best and most versatile stats is that when you’re on Torrent while facing a boss like the Night’s Cavalry or a Dragon, you won’t fall off right away. Falling off your steed is basically a death sentence. That one extra hit you can take between falling off and staying on Torrents can really turn the tide, especially if you’re using the jousting method to take field bosses on.

If you’re looking for items on a cliff dropping down steep inclines or trying to get back to your pile of lost runes, you reduce the likelihood of dying with a higher Dexterity stat. This is especially helpful when it comes to Tunnel dungeons, but does not prevent death from huge falls where you fall for more than about a second.

Elden Ring is available now for PlayStation 4 and 5, Xbox One and Series consoles, and PC.

How to Sprint in Elden Ring https://attackofthefanboy.com/guides/how-to-sprint-in-elden-ring/ https://attackofthefanboy.com/guides/how-to-sprint-in-elden-ring/#respond Thu, 21 Jul 2022 19:55:53 +0000 https://attackofthefanboy.com/?p=847145
Elden-Ring-official-screenshot

Elden Ring is a game with incredible depth. Even fans of FromSoftware’s previous entries might miss important pieces of knowledge about this title, such as the weaknesses of certain enemies. While Elden Ring is much more accessible thanks to online improvements and greater build variety, new players might end up without more important knowledge that veterans are aware of. For example, they might not be aware of every movement option available in Elden Ring – including sprinting – especially if they missed the Cave of Knowledge at the start. Learning how to sprint in Elden Ring might seem trivial for most, but it can be vital for the survival of first-time players.

How to Sprint in Elden Ring

Much like FromSoftware’s other action titles, sprinting is done by moving while holding the roll button. Tapping the button will only lead to a roll or a backstep; it must be held in order to activate sprinting. It should be noted that sprinting can be done directly after a roll or a backstep simply by continuing to hold the button while moving. If the player has access to Torrent, the roll button will simply provide a short boost of speed. To put it simply, hold the roll button when on foot and tap it repeatedly when on Torrent to sprint.

Players should be wary of their equipment load if they want full access to sprinting. Similar to how rolling cannot be done while over-encumbered, sprinting will be unavailable as well. This might not be an issue with the right equipment, however. A good example of this is the Bloodhound’s Step Ash of War, which can allow players to rapidly move in any direction while dodging attacks. With or without these tools, sprinting is still immensely helpful for new players. With good stamina management, it’s possible to easily sprint past most enemies on the way to a boss fight, avoiding unnecessary conflicts as a player reaches their toughest battle yet.

Elden Ring is available on PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, and PC.

How to get the Halo Scythe in Elden Ring https://attackofthefanboy.com/guides/how-to-get-the-halo-scythe-in-elden-ring/ https://attackofthefanboy.com/guides/how-to-get-the-halo-scythe-in-elden-ring/#respond Fri, 15 Jul 2022 10:44:46 +0000 https://attackofthefanboy.com/?p=846028
Elden-Ring-Halo-Scythe

Elden Ring has an abundance of weapons and gear that players are always going to be looking for during their playthrough if they need to add a certain item to their arsenal. Whether they are preparing for fights with brutally tough bosses, or simply want to look the most stylish across the lands, hunting for gear is an extremely important part of the experience. One such weapon that players may be looking for is the Halo Scythe and this guide article will take you through everything you need to know about how to get the Halo Scythe in Elden Ring.

Acquiring the Halo Scythe in Elden Ring

There are certain types of enemies that will drop the Halo Scythe for you within the experience. There are the Cleanrot Knights which are close to the ‘Heart of Aeonia’, specifically to the south. It can be a rarer drop to get the weapon but it is indeed possible to get it from these particular knights. If the knights are wielding the scythes then those are the ones that you want to focus on eliminating for a chance of getting the Halo Scythe to drop for you.

Further, the specific name of the area where you are best to eliminate these enemies for a chance of the scythe dropping is Caelid’s Aeonia Swamp. You will of course be able to find a lot of these enemies here to begin the process of farming for getting the Halo Scythe. You will likely be familiar with the Cleanrot knights as there is a boss encounter with them in the Abandonded Cave. It should be noted that it is the regular enemies that have a chance of dropping the weapon. Time to get farming and add another excellent weapon to your equipment!

Elden Ring is available now and playable for PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X/S, Xbox One, and PC.

Best Elden Ring Progression Route & Boss Order https://attackofthefanboy.com/guides/best-elden-ring-progression-route-boss-order/ https://attackofthefanboy.com/guides/best-elden-ring-progression-route-boss-order/#respond Tue, 05 Jul 2022 23:49:49 +0000 https://attackofthefanboy.com/?p=844178
Elden-Ring-Support-to-Staircase

Elden Ring does little to guide you through your adventure in the Lands Between. You fight against a seemingly impossible boss, get a small optional tutorial, and now you’re out and about. The moment you explore, you’re facing yet another seemingly unbeatable boss, the Tree Sentinel. This posed the question, what is the best way to go? Here, we’ll guide you through the best progression route in Elden Ring like the boss order and places to check out.

Best Elden Ring Progression Route and Boss Order

Elden-Ring-Progression-Map

For true first-timers of the Soulslike games, always pick the Golden Seed for your Keepsake! This will give you an extra permanent heal at the start of the game. Since you have free reign on where to go in the Lands Between, follow this guide’s arrows as just the best route for Elden Ring.

Once you make it to The First Step, skip the Tree Sentinel. It’s possible to beat everything in the game with level 1 gear, but if you want to deal decent damage and be able to take more than one hit, move on. The following map will show you the places you should go to defeat bosses, gain XP, and acquire new weapons for your journey ahead. Fighting Agheel is optional since Dragon bosses in the game tend to be clunky and tedious.

Elden-Ring-Limgrave-Directions

Next, as you clear most of the central part of Limgrave, head south past Agheel Lake South and Bloodhound Knight Darriwil’s Evergaol. Go south until you hit the Bridge of Sacrifice. Next, you want to clear as much as you can in this area. For additional drops and XP, patrol the Castle Morne Rampart Site of Grace at night to fight the Night’s Cavalry. There should be 10 bosses in this area you can take down, including Leonine Misbegotten at Castle Morne.

Once you have explored a majority of Limgrave, you can then proceed towards Stormveil Castle to fight Margit. Of course, to fully maximize your stats without hitting diminishing returns on XP gains, you can revisit skipped field bosses like the Tree Sentinel and Flying Dragon Agheel.

The next hurdle is getting through Stormveil without getting lost or running out of Crimson Flasks. Since that might be harder than Margit, you can start to travel eastward towards Caelid. Don’t stay for long, but try unlocking new Sites of Grace. Hit up a few dungeons and find additional Golden Seeds to up your flask count.

Elden-Ring-early-game-farm-area

The area labeled “early game farm” is good for getting a few extra levels so you can get through Stormveil and eventually get through the second story boss of the game, Godrick the Grafted. While you’re farming here at the northeast side of Caelid, find the Farum Greatbridge Site of Grace so you can come back there to defeat Black Blade Kindred and Flying Dragon Greyll at a later time.

If you followed the route up to this point, you should probably be nearing level 70, which will be more than enough to find your way through Stormveil, beat Godrick, and get to the next area of the game, Liurnia.

This place is just as densely packed as the last two regions, but you want to start with the outskirts. Hug the left or right of the area. Don’t take the lake routes here, given that there isn’t anything too significant other than Sites of Grace and collectibles. Travel to as many named places until you get to Caria Manor on the left and the Church of Inhibition on the right.

All this side questing will help you gain additional levels, upgrading materials, armor, and more important items to help you survive. At this point, you can then clear out Raya Lucaria without too much trouble, including the boss.

Elden-Ring-Liurnia-Route

This allows you to move forward onto the Altus Plateau. Here is where you want to start with the western part and slowly make your way to the east. While you can use the Grand Lift of Dectus to make your way there, it’ll be easier to go through the Ruin-Strewn Precipice where you fight Magma Wyrm Makar. It’s an alternate route so you can reach places like Volcano Manor. While this area and quest are optional, they’ll help level you tremendously if you want to go for a completionist run.

Once you clear all or most of the area off the outer wall of Leyndell, you can revisit Caelid. Even though this place is technically available from the start, the enemies hit very hard. If you’re all the way at the Royal Capital, you are most than equipped to take on most of the threats looming in the red wastelands, including one of the more notoriously difficult bosses, Radahn.

Caelid-Progression-Route

If you decided to clear all or most of Caelid, including Redmane, the War-Dead Catacombs, the Divine Tower, the Bestial Sanctum, and all the dragons, most of the other fights in the game should be significantly easier.

At this point in the game, everything is a lot more straightforward, especially with where the Sites of Grace are pointing. Leyndell is the last place in the game where you can easily get lost because of its depth. You might end up in the sewers or making your way to the top, getting that much closer to the Erdtree sealing the Elden Throne. Here, you only have to fight Godfrey and Morgott so you can progress toward the Mountaintops of the Giants.

That whole upper section of the map that seems inaccessible to the east of Castle Sol is all optional. It’s accessible if you get both pieces of the Haligree Medallion. Anyway, this snowy section of the map will feel like Caelid again. Everything hits hard, plus visibility is low.

Altus-Plateau-Directions

It is recommended to hit all the dungeons and caves. Levels matter greatly, especially for the fight ahead. The arrows will show you a path where you need to go, but feel free to grab any additional farming XP along the way. The only real mandatory boss here is the Fire Giant so you can move forward with the story.

At this point, you should go back to Leyndell and pick up any items you see on the floor since there are quite a few missable here. Once you’re done, proceed with the Cardinal Sin scene and get to Farum Azula. At this point, everything here is straightforward as this is the last mandatory and unique place to beat the story.

The reason why underground areas of the game are excluded from the guide is that they’re all mostly from optional quests. Of course, if you’re looking to explore every area before the credits roll, you want to explore them.

Mountaintops-of-the-Giants-Best-Path

Of course, this route which we consider the best for Elden Ring is that it allows you to mostly hit all the important areas, including any possibly missable things. If anything, it’s more to point you in the direction of useful items and powerful enemies.

Elden Ring Boss Order

The following is simply a list of the mandatory bosses you should fight before getting to the final boss. This does not include bosses from catacombs, invasions, or dungeons.

  • 1. Margit the Fell Omen
  • 2. Godrick the Grafted
  • 3. Rennala, Queen of the Full Moon
  • 4. Godfrey, First Elden Lord (Shade)
  • 5. Morgott, the Omen King
  • 6. Fire Giant
  • 7. Godskin Duo
  • 8. Maliketh, the Black Blade
  • 9. Godfrey / Hoarah Loux
  • 10. Radagon of the Golden Order / Elden Beast

What you may notice is that other shard bearer bosses like Mohg, Malenia, and Rykard are missing from the mandatory ones. They aren’t necessary. While they all add to the lore and give cool drops, only the above are those needed to get through the game. Of course, with more bosses defeated and more places explored, you can even the playing field having stronger stats so you won’t always get one-shotted by everything that comes your way.

How Does Scaling Work in Elden Ring? Elden Ring Weapon Scaling Letters, Explained https://attackofthefanboy.com/guides/how-does-scaling-work-in-elden-ring-elden-ring-weapon-scaling-letters-explained/ https://attackofthefanboy.com/guides/how-does-scaling-work-in-elden-ring-elden-ring-weapon-scaling-letters-explained/#respond Thu, 16 Jun 2022 13:47:12 +0000 https://attackofthefanboy.com/?p=841869
How-Does-Scaling-Work-in-Elden-Ring

Elden Ring doesn’t really help the player all too much unless they are willing to seek the knowledge. You just make your character and then you are on your way into the Lands Between. Like many RPG games out there, there are stats and all these other important tidbits that can help shape a certain build or playstyle you want to go for, namely scaling. It might be a bit of a confusing aspect for many, so here we’ll clarify how stat scaling works so you can get the most out of your build in Elden Ring.

How Does Scaling Work in Elden Ring?

When you check your weapon, you’ll notice that there are letters next to the five stats listed in the Attribute Scaling part in your Equipment menu. These are extremely important as they indicate their strength relative to how much you specced into these said stats.

You’ll notice that out of the eight stats you can spec into (Vigor, Mind, Endurance, etc.), only five are listed to scale with the weapons you pick. Before you can even think of looking at attribute scaling, take note of what your highest stat of those five is. It’s important to capitalize on your highest stats to get the most out of your weapons, especially in a game as legendarily difficult as this.

Elden-Ring-Nagakiba-Scaling

Next, you should see that you fulfill all the possible requirements to handle your weapon correctly. In my provided example, I show my maxed-out Nagakiba +25. It has a requirement of 18 Str and 22 Dex. As I fulfilled those stats, I then take note of how well the weapon scales in the Attribute Scaling section.

Both Str and Dex are at B rank, meaning that I should focus my build around Strength and Dexterity. For every level I put into one of those two stats, the lethality of my weapon will increase. If I spec into Mind or Faith, that would be counterintuitive to wanting to increase my weapon’s damage output. Using katanas, in general, doesn’t require any other stat other than Arcane for the Rivers of Blood or Intelligence for the Moonveil and Meteoric Ore Blade.

If I wanted to run a build that focuses primarily on Strength and Dexterity, I should look out for weapons that scale primarily in those regions. The higher the letter, the stronger it’ll scale with my weapon. If they were both at A, the Attack Power would be even higher than what you’re seeing it at right now.

Elden-Ring-Hoslows-Whip

In this next example, I’m using a maxed-out Hoslow’s Petal Whip +25. It scales with a D in Str, D in Int, and C in Dex. Looking at its attack power, the numbers add up to a number lower than my Nagakiba. That’s mostly because the Str and Dex stats are lower than B. It’s also from the fact that this weapon scales off Intelligence, which is a stat that I don’t have much put into.

All weapons that do not require Somber Smithing Stones can be altered with Ashes of War so you can switch the attribute scaling. This can be extremely useful if you want to make a specific build but really like a certain weapon. Of course, their potency in terms of Attribute Scaling won’t be as strong as those of unique weapons.

In fact, in a few cases, scaling can go as high as S rank, but only a handful of weapons can achieve that. That’ll also only be possible if you rank them up to +25 if they’re normal weapons or +10 if they require Somber Smithing Stones. Just know that those that do require Somber Stones cannot have their Attribute Scaling changed. Those are locked to specific stats.

Elden Ring is out now currently for PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, and PC.

How to Beat the Ulcerated Tree Spirit in Elden Ring – Recommended Level, Tips, and Tricks https://attackofthefanboy.com/guides/how-to-beat-the-ulcerated-tree-spirit-in-elden-ring-recommended-level-tips-and-tricks/ https://attackofthefanboy.com/guides/how-to-beat-the-ulcerated-tree-spirit-in-elden-ring-recommended-level-tips-and-tricks/#respond Tue, 14 Jun 2022 18:40:41 +0000 https://attackofthefanboy.com/?p=841644
Elden-Ring-Ulcerated-Tree-Spirit

The Ulcerated Tree Spirit is a particularly tricky Elden Ring boss, but attacking this creature at the recommended level with the right tips and tricks in mind is a surefire way to bring it down with ease. Like most bosses in Elden Ring, the Ulcerated Tree Spirit has an attack pattern that can be learned if you pay close enough attention. That means you can avoid all of its attacks as long as you keep your cool and don’t freak out if you die a few times. Still, there’s only so much you can do if you’re underleveled or don’t have good enough gear, so here’s the recommended level for the Ulcerated Tree Spirit boss fight in Elden Ring.

Recommended Level to Beat the Ulcerated Tree Spirit in Elden Ring

When you fight the Ulcerated Tree Spirit, your Elden Ring character should be at least level 65. There are multiple variations of this boss located throughout the Lands Between, but the level requirement is the same for them all.

The earliest version of the Ulcerated Tree Spirit can be found at the beginning of the game by using two Stonesword Keys next to the Stranded Graveyard Site of Grace after completing (or ignoring) the Cave of Knowledge tutorial, but your character will be way too weak to challenge it at that point. If you’re trying to beat the Ulcerated Tree Spirit before you’ve leveled up or obtained new weapons, you won’t win unless you’re a veteran Dark Souls player who enjoys challenge runs and no hit runs.

For those who didn’t choose Stonesword Keys as their starting keepsake, the Ulcerated Tree Spirit will be encountered in the Mt. Gelmir region of the Lands Between. Just like the other variants of this boss, you should be level 65 before attempting to fight it. There are also non-boss versions of the Ulcerated Tree Spirit found in areas like Stormveil Castle and Grand Cloister, and the level recommendation holds true for these even though they lack a boss health bar.

How to Defeat the Ulcerated Tree Spirit

Beating the Ulcerated Tree Spirit is a simple ordeal if you are at the appropriate level when fighting it. Just learn its simple attack pattern and attack when it is recovering. Its attack pattern may seem sporadic and unpredictable at first glance, but you can pick up on its tells if you pay attention during your first few attempts. The main problem with this boss fight is the small room that it takes place in, giving the boss a huge advantage over you.

The first phase of the fight will see the Ulcerated Tree Spirit using mostly melee attacks with its wide-reaching arms, while it will resort to ranged holy attacks during the second half of the fight. The best strategy here is to be patient and only attack after the boss uses one of its more powerful moves, as these have long end lag stages that will allow you to get a few hits in with ease.

If you have weapons, sorceries, or incantations that apply fire damage, then use those here as the Ulcerated Tree Spirit has a crippling weakness to fire. Incorporating flames into your combat strategy will make this fight much, much easier. You can also check out our Ulcerated Tree Spirit cheese strategy guide for an easier path to victory.

Ulcerated Tree Spirit Rewards in Elden Ring

Once you emerge victorious over the Ulcerated Tree Spirit, you will receive a large sum of Runes in addition to some other rewards depending on the variation of the boss that you defeat. If you slay it in Mt. Gelmir, you will receive 18,000 Runes, a Leaden Hardtear, and a Cerulean Hidden Tear. Defeating it in the Fringefolk Hero’s Grave will net you 15,000 Runes, a Golden Seed, and Banished Knight Oleg’s Ashes.

Finally, if you beat it in the Giant’s Mountaintop Catacombs, you’ll get 48,000 Runes, a Golden Seed, and Glovewart Picker’s Bell Bearing 2. You’ll also get a Deathroot for killing this boss, which can be used for a certain Elden Ring questline.

What does Godric’s Great Rune do in Elden Ring? Elden-Ring-Great-Rune-Menu

When it comes to Great Runes in Elden Ring, the first one you will come across is Godric’s Great Rune. You will get it after you manage to kill him and you may wonder what exactly it does. If you look at it in your inventory, it tells you it raises your stats, but you won’t notice any stat increase from when you got it. This is because there are a few things you need to do with a Godric’s Great Rune before you will gain its benefits. Let’s go over what benefits you get from Godric’s Great Rune in Elden Ring and how you get them.

What Does Godric’s Great Rune Do?

Just reading the description of Godric’s Great Rune will tell you that it provides a stat increase to you. Even though the game doesn’t list the exact number, players have managed to figure out that if you equip and activate Godric’s Great Rune all of your attributes will raise by five. This may not be an insane increase but it is still a nice bonus to have no matter your build. That’s 40 levels worth of attribute points that you don’t have to spend.

How to Equip Godric’s Great Rune

When you first obtain the Great Rune you will notice that you can’t equip it at a site of grace. This is because you need to activate it first before it can be used. Once you have activated Godric’s Great Rune, you can equip it at any site of grace. You do still need to use a Rune Arc after you have equipped Godric’s Great Rune to gain the benefits that it provides.

Elden-Ring-Rune-Arc-Item

After you have used the Rune Arc you should notice the stat increase. You can check if the Great Rune is working by seeing if it is lit up on your HUD. In the small golden shape that your HP, MP, and Stamina bar are connected to you should see the Godric’s Great Rune there and it should be shining. If it is, then you are gaining the effect of the rune. If you don’t see the Great Rune lit up there then you need to use another Rune Arc to activate it.

There are not many ways that your Great Rune will run out. But it doesn’t hurt to check on it every once in a while to make sure you are still gaining the effects that it provides. It is pointless to have one equipped and not activated if you are able to. If you need any more help with Elden Ring make sure to check out our other guides.

Do Great Runes last forever in Elden Ring? https://attackofthefanboy.com/guides/do-great-runes-last-forever-in-elden-ring/ https://attackofthefanboy.com/guides/do-great-runes-last-forever-in-elden-ring/#respond Tue, 14 Jun 2022 09:14:25 +0000 https://attackofthefanboy.com/?p=841513
Elden-Ring-Great-Rune-Point

Great Runes are made out to be such a big deal in Elden Ring. Many NPCs will talk to you about them and for good reason. Each rune you equip provides some sort of beneficial effect, from giving you bonus stats to allowing you to restore health with each attack. The big question about Great Runes is if the effect will run out or not. Most stat effects in Elden Ring have a duration or are lost on death. Since you have to use an item to activate a Great Rune it would make sense that the effect runs out at some point. Let’s go over if Great Runes will expire.

Will A Great Rune Last Forever in Elden Ring?

Since the Gret Rune system for Elden Ring is similar to the Lord of Cinders system in Dark Souls 3. Many players will figure that they both work the same. In Dark Souls 3, you could use an Ember to obtain the power of a Lord of Cinder which would give them increased stats and allow you to summon other players and you would lose the effect on death. However, the Great Rune system works a bit differently.

Once you have a Great Rune equipped and consume a Rune Arc to activate it, you will gain the benefits of the Great Rune until you equip a different Great Rune. Fast traveling, being summoned to another world, even death won’t deactivate the Great Rune. Even if you close and re-open Elden Ring, you will still have the effect of your Great Rune on. This will allow you to challenge some of the more difficult bosses of the game with a slight advantage.

This is quite useful since Rune Arcs are not the most common resource. You can find a decent amount of Rune Arcs as you play the game and some merchants have a few to buy. The only other way to get Rune Arcs is to be summoned into another world and successfully kill the boss that the player is trying to kill.

As long as you are not changing Great Runes with every death you should be fine with the amount of Rune Arcs you will passively find through the game. You probably won’t change your Great Rune unless you get a new Great Rune and you think you will benefit more from its effect. If you need any more help with Elden Ring make sure to check out our other guides.

elden-ring-primal-glintstone-blade

Some of the most powerful items in Elden Ring come with penalties in exchange for strength. The Primal Glintstone Blade is one of these items, reducing maximum HP in exchange for reduced spell costs. It’s not the only item that can reduce the cost of spells, but few pieces of equipment – including other Talismans – can match this one. The blade is a perfect addition to any player looking to deal immense damage with sorceries, and it can find plenty of use on support and healing builds as well. Any spellcaster in Elden Ring will benefit greatly from figuring out how to get the Primal Glintstone Blade for themselves.

How to Get the Primal Glintstone Blade in Elden Ring

This Talisman is only obtainable later on in the game; specifically, it can only be found in the Mountaintops of the Giants. Players must head to the Stargazers’ Ruins found after the long bridge connecting the bottom half of the area with the top half. The ruins are found on top of a cliff to the left of the player when they cross. Just be careful, as one wrong turn will lead you to a boss fight with the Death Rite Bird.

Upon reaching the Ruins, players will encounter a jellyfish yearning for its sister. They should take care not to kill it, but even if they do, the jellyfish will thankfully respawn after resting at a Site of Grace. It happens to be floating next to a staircase leading to the Primal Glintstone Blade, but the entrance to it is sealed. To pass the seal, players must answer the jellyfish’s wish and summon their own Spirit Jellyfish. You should already have the spirit by now, especially if you’ve spoken to Roderika at any time. After some dialogue, the two jellyfish will disappear and the seal will vanish, allowing the player to claim the Talisman as their prize.

elden-ring-fingercreeper

When travelling through some of the optional areas of Elden Ring, players might encounter disembodied hands with multiple fingers. These Fingercreepers are actually strong enemies that can quite easily tap away at a player’s health in mere moments. They aren’t found in many different places, but they make their home in areas relevant to important NPC questlines. To beat Fingercreepers effectively, players will need a fair amount of skill and varied methods of attack. Only by exploiting the weaknesses of these hand-like creatures can players avoid a tough time battling them.

How to Beat Fingercreepers Effectively in Elden Ring

Fingercreepers rely on their size and close-range strikes to catch players off guard. Staying up close to one will not end well unless you weave through the fingers and keep yourself directly behind them. They can’t be backstabbed, but the only counter Fingercreepers can muster is to run away and reposition themselves. Additionally, while they have a ranged attack, it’s slow and easily avoided; the projectile they shoot doesn’t even immediately explode when hitting the player. Staying far away and firing off spells is a surefire method of taking these foes out.

If you wish to avoid a long and drawn-out fight altogether, Fingercreepers are exceedingly weak to fire. Using a weapon or spell that deals fire damage will cause the Fingercreeper to roll around the ground in pain, rendering it unable to attack for a time. This also applies to bloodflame spells or weapons, allowing you to inflict an incredibly powerful status effect on the enemy as well. While they might be less common than the speedy, deadly Revenants and the large, bleed-inflicting bears, Fingercreepers have much more exploitable weaknesses. Just be wary of the ones that hide in the ground, waiting to grab unsuspecting players. If one of those gets its hand on you, no amount of knowledge will easily save you from its grasp.

elden-ring-runebear

Even in the first moments of a player’s Elden Ring experience, the strongest foes might be hiding in plain sight. Numerous bears can be found near the first major area of the game, and one of them even serves as an optional boss. These Runebears are strong and dangerous, sometimes able to inflict more damage and intimidation than certain major bosses. Players can still figure out new tactics to beat Runebears effectively, and they might need to in order to stand a chance against them early on.

How to Beat Runebears Effectively in Elden Ring

Runebears aren’t as fast as other enemies, but they have excellent mobility. Trying to attack them from afar will not be effective. Instead, players should focus on fast melee strikes and dodge through the bear’s slower yet stronger blows. A shield should also be kept to easily guard against faster attacks, such as the bite, but it should not be relied upon; Runebears can inflict hemorrhaging even through a player’s guard. Using equal or greater speed compared to the bear will be more useful than trying to block its attacks.

Runebears have slightly lowered resistance to fire, but players will get more use out of the many status effects available for them to use. The most effective status to use against Runebears is sleep. Sleep-inducing items aren’t easily found – even the books used to craft some of them aren’t easily found – but they’ll completely stop a Runebear in its tracks. This will give the player plenty of time to heal up or deal some massive damage. Runebears are generally out-of-the-way regardless, and they’re easily outran by Torrent. Players can easily avoid Runebears and save exploring their territory for later. After gaining the right equipment and facing off against stronger common enemies, defeating a Runebear will seem like a much simpler task.

elden-ring-revenant

Elden Ring is a game with many powerful foes. Many of the boss fights that players encounter will keep them on their toes, but even normal enemies might be surprisingly more difficult than usual. One such enemy is the Revenant, a spider-like humanoid with incredible speed. One Revenant can even be encountered as a boss, but the more common variants can lead to a great amount of trouble – especially the group of Revenants found in Elphael on the way to Marika’s Soreseal. Thankfully, there are many tactics and abilities that players can use to beat Revenants effectively.

How to Beat Revenants Effectively in Elden Ring

The rapid pace at which Revenants attack can be highly damaging to players. They usually let off a string of two, three, or four attacks in quick succession. This includes a flailing attack, which players should avoid by staying away from the Revenant’s head; staying closer to its elbows or torso will make you much safer. They can also spit poison at players, most notably after crawling into the ground and reappearing. Even if you keep away from the poison, ranged attacks will be ineffective due to the revenant’s lunges. Instead, players should opt to use shields and fast weapons. A Revenant’s attacks are mostly physical, so guarding against them will keep the player from taking much damage at all.

Above all else, however, Revenants are most weak to area-of-effect healing. Spells like Erdtree Heal will deal incredible damage to Revenants, instantly staggering them, while spells like Blessing’s Boon will slowly drain the Revenant’s HP over time. This won’t apply to spells or items that only heal yourself, but even the weakest Heal spell will deal immense damage. Ironically, this makes player-friendly support builds the strongest builds to battle Revenants with. If you’re able to give yourself 12 Faith and a good sacred seal, this is the best way to effectively beat Revenants.

Haligdrake-Talisman-Location-screenshot

The Haligdrake Talisman is an early game item that tends to elude players in Elden Ring, with the accessory hanging above a tall ledge near the tutorial area when the game kicks off. Unlike the repertoires of legendary Talismans out there, there are no achievements for collecting every trinket that the game has to offer. But the Haligdrake Talisman stands as a learning exercise in instilling the idea of finding alternative routes, the rewards obtainable from taking detours in the realms of Limgrave and succeeding regions.

How to Get the Cave of Knowledge Haligdrake Talisman in Elden Ring

The Elden Ring adornment is accessible by dropping down some ledges to the shoreline near the Seaside Ruins site of grace, traversing along the beach, and entering a cave where the talisman is located. Starting from the Seaside Ruins site of grace, travel south around the ledges while avoiding the enemies nearby. Players will know that they are at the right location to begin their journey downwards if they can identify a spirit spring alongside the beach. Depending on whether the player has acquired Torrent or not, there are two ways to the coastland.

Haligdrake-Talisman-Spirit-Spring-Screenshot

With Torrent, players can just jump down near the vicinity of the Spirit Spring, which will cushion the player’s drop as they fall, neglecting the damage that they would have taken. If a player hasn’t gotten Torrent yet, however, then they’ll have to strafe alongside the narrow ledges of a protruding column as they drop from one ledge to another, avoiding steep falls as they make their way to the beach sands below.

After landing back on solid ground, start heading north towards the cave. You may encounter a tall humanoid wielding a gravity sword along the way near a campfire, who will drop Ash of War: Gravitas if defeated for the first time. Keep heading north and the player will eventually reach a cave leading inwards into the seaside cliffs. Continuing down the passageway will lead players to the high ledge above the Cave of Knowledge, the beginning area of the game after their encounter with the Grafted Scion. Loot the ledge-clinging corpse for the Haligdrake Talisman.

Haligdrake-Talisman-Location-Map

The talisman provides a damage reduction towards holy damage, making the player more resilient against holy incantations or boss attacks of a similar attribute. Though enemies of such nature and few and far between. It will prove handy in the instance where the additional defense against such elements becomes convenient.

Elden-Ring-Roderika-1

Roderika is one of the NPCs that you will come across in Elden Ring that doesn’t attack you on sight. You will first find her on your way to Stormveil Castle, she is taking refuge in a shack along the road. She doesn’t seem to be of much importance after you talk to her and she gives you an item. All she talks about is being scared of getting grafted onto a spider monster. Later on, you can find what remains of her comrades in Stormveil Castle and return that to her. This begins her quest in Elden Ring and will force you to make a decision about her.

Should you Tell Roderika About What the Blacksmith Said in Elden Ring

If you try to return to the shack you found her at and give her the item, you will notice that she is missing. This is because she has taken up residence in the Roundtable Hold and should be your first clue that there is more to this NPC than meets the eye. After you give her the item, you may notice a new option appears when talking to the Blacksmith to talk about Roderkia. Asking him about it will make him tell you that she has great power from his perspective.

Elden-Ring-Roderika

He says she has the ability to become a Spirit-Tuner, something that has not been talked about by any other NPC at this point. From here you have two options, You can either tell Roderika about what the Blacksmith said and have her start down the path to become a Spirit-Tuner, or let her keep standing around the Roundtable hold doing nothing. Obviously, you will want to tell her about what the Blacksmith said and get her started down the Spirit-Tuner path.

There is no real downside to telling her about this, it is the only way to upgrade your Spirit Ashes and it begins a quest later in the game concerning the Blacksmith. A lot of things in Elden Ring can seem really confusing about what you should do, just like the Final Fantasy XIV subscription model. But when it comes to this choice, there really is no choice. You should always tell Roderika about what the Blacksmith says.

This does not mean that you should always do everything an NPC says in Elden Ring, especially if you want them to stay alive. But in this one situation, nothing bad can happen. If you need any more help with Elden Ring make sure to check out our other guides.

Best Elden Ring Astrologer Build: Stats, Weapons, Spells, and More https://attackofthefanboy.com/guides/best-elden-ring-astrologer-build-stats-weapons-spells-and-more/ https://attackofthefanboy.com/guides/best-elden-ring-astrologer-build-stats-weapons-spells-and-more/#respond Thu, 12 May 2022 18:00:12 +0000 https://attackofthefanboy.com/?p=837217
Terra-Magica

When starting out their journey in Elden Ring, players might want to get a head start on the build they’d like to use throughout the game. A player’s starting attributes are determined by the class they choose, and this class acts as a guide to future levelling. This can be changed later on, but a player that knows their preferences ahead of time will keep from wasting runes on unnecessary levelling. If players choose the Astrologer class, for example, they’ll want to obtain numerous spells and Intelligence-scaling weapons. The best Astrologer build will make use of these tools to their fullest, going so far as to eradicate the toughest bosses in the game with little difficulty.

How to Make the Best Astrologer Build in Elden Ring

The Astrologer starts with 16 Intelligence and 15 Mind. Both of these attributes are higher on this class than any other. Astrologers also start out with some basic spells and light gear. They have a fair amount of Dexterity, but their Strength, Faith, and Arcane attributes are relatively average or lacking. Outside of the obvious contenders, this point distribution makes it clear that the best attributes for Astrologers to focus on are Intelligence, Mind, and Dexterity. Most sorceries and staffs will only require Intelligence to use effectively. This means that Astrologers can make full use of the best sorceries in Elden Ring, as well as the best staffs. Thanks to their naturally high Mind attribute, this especially includes sorceries with high FP costs such as Comet Azur.

Magic damage should be the focus of Astrologer builds, with weapons such as the Wing of Astel being perfect sidearms for when enemies get too close for comfort. When facing enemies that can resist magic damage fairly well, weapons that scale with Dexterity will result in the highest damage for the lowest cost to Astrologers. The best armor for Astrologers can vary depending on playstyle, but generally light armor that can resist elemental damage will be most useful. A fine example of such armor is Lusat’s set, which boasts relatively low weight and massive resistance to Magic damage. Spells can be used from a range to easily outclass melee enemies, but many foes in Elden Ring wield magic of their own. Being able to resist ranged attacks as a mage is vital to survival.

The various Glintstone Crowns found throughout the game are also very useful, as they can increase the damage of your sorceries in exchange for lowering some of your other attributes. When searching for Talismans, Astrologers should be on the lookout for the Graven-Mass Talisman, Cerulean Seed Talisman, Primal Glintstone Blade, and Marika’s Soreseal. All of these Talismans will either increase the strength of your sorceries or make them easier to cast. Other useful items include the Cerulean Hidden Tear to negate FP consumption, the Regal Omen Bairn for a source of Holy damage, and Godrick’s Great Rune to increase your attributes at will. With the right tools, an Astrologer can easily defeat the strongest foes and claim the title of Elden Lord!

Should You Upgrade Your Starting Weapon in Elden Ring? https://attackofthefanboy.com/guides/should-you-upgrade-your-starting-weapon-in-elden-ring/ https://attackofthefanboy.com/guides/should-you-upgrade-your-starting-weapon-in-elden-ring/#respond Wed, 11 May 2022 20:37:10 +0000 https://attackofthefanboy.com/?p=837187
Starting-weapons-elden-ring

Elden Ring has a plethora of weapons ranging from all different styles that fit all sorts of builds. Everything can be upgraded from your starter weapon, special weapons, and boss weapons, but not readily available to do so. For players who have decided to ride the wave past the hype period for the game, the question will be asked. Should you upgrade your starting weapon in Elden Ring? We’ll break this down for you.

Should You Upgrade Your Starting Weapon in Elden Ring?

Personally, I’d say you should upgrade your starting weapon, but up to a certain degree. You can clear this game with any kind of weapon you want. Obviously, there are weapons that are just outright stronger than others, with a clearly defined meta at this point in the game’s lifespan.

Upgrading your starting weapon would be dependent on your skill. If you are not a seasoned Soulsborne player, you should probably hold off on upgrading your starting weapon. Like I previously mentioned about weapon meta, you’ll notice that your starter weapons will easily be outclassed by other weapons you find later down the line in your playthrough.

Smithing Stones don’t come easily to you until you are at least level 50 or higher and are in the midwest section of the map. By the time you defeat the first two mandatory bosses of the game, you will have access to Liurnia, all of Limgrave, and Caelid. There are plenty of bosses to fight who will drop weapons of the same class that are most likely stronger or scale better than your starting weapons.

Elden-Ring-Should-You-Upgrade-Your-Starting-Weapon

In most cases, those weapons will most likely have some kind of passive or unique skill, making them more versatile in combat than your starting gear. This is mostly a trend you see in all types of games in the RPG games. The starting gear is fine, but power creep is something that can’t really be mitigated.

If your guarding, parrying, and enemy choreographing skills are amazing, you can upgrade your starting weapons. They aren’t bad per se, and they can definitely put in some work thanks to the help of Ashes of War. Anything is viable in Elden Ring, especially if you have the skill to do so.

So, really, it boils down to your skill in these types of games. The newer you are to these types of games, hold off until you get something a bit better. Higher stats can help you win fights that might feel impossible to you.

Elden Ring: How to Get the White Mask https://attackofthefanboy.com/guides/elden-ring-how-to-get-the-white-mask/ https://attackofthefanboy.com/guides/elden-ring-how-to-get-the-white-mask/#respond Wed, 11 May 2022 16:58:34 +0000 https://attackofthefanboy.com/?p=837150
Elden-Ring-White-Mask-Screenshot-2

To any Elden Ring player, the sight of Varre and his white mask should be no foreign sight. Whether it is the result of him being the first NPC that is encountered by the player, or the fact that his barbed tongue has left an impression. The bloody garbs that he wears alongside his mask are rather distinct and can be acquired by the Tarnished, though they are certainly far from being immediately accessible. This guide will cover the possible methods of getting the war surgeon set and the white mask, and their particularities.

How to get the White Mask in Elden Ring

Getting the headpiece will require the player to travel to Mohgwyn Palace in Elden Ring, killing red invaders garbed in the same uniform as Varre. It is necessary to note that this needs to be done before killing the final boss of the region, as defeating him would stop those invaders from spawning on the map.

Start from either the Dynasty Mausoleum Entrance or Palace Approach Ledge-Road site of Grace. Head into the bloodied swamp, while steering clear from enemies that can be found in the area, or deal with them accordingly. Players will have to defeat Nameless White Mask invaders to obtain the set. The three locations where they can be found are drawn out on the map. One can be found near a shore guarded by Albinaurics, another near an island where a golden seed can be found, and the last at the southern edge of the swamp between two gigantic tree stumps.

Elden-Ring-White-Mask-Invader-Screenshot

If the invader that’s vanquished does not drop the war surgeon set alongside his mask, the player should head to the other potential spawn points and defeat the invaders there as well. This should guarantee the set for the player.

A few methods are available that could bring a player to Mohgwyn Palace. Players can reach the location by finishing Varre’s questline, using the rewarded item to teleport to Mohgwyn Palace. Alternatively, they could use a teleporter located at the Consecrated Snowfields, a hidden end-game region accessible through hoisting the secret Haligtree medallion at the Grand Lift of Rold.

The white mask is an intriguing piece of headwear as it boosts a player’s attack by 10% for 20 seconds whenever an enemy nearby has suffered blood loss. Making it a good armor piece to consider for players who are building Arcane, whether it’s with the Rivers of Blood Katana or other Arcane scaling weapons. It is possible for this headpiece to also stack with the Lord of Blood’s Exultation Talisman, found in the Leyndell Catacombs. Equipping both items at once can lead to a 30% attack increase, leading to a potent power boost.

Players are free to continue exploring the region after defeating all the invaders. Should players have completed Varre’s questline, they’ll find him waiting for them as they make their way up the palace, spouting more disapproval towards the player’s actions.

Elden Ring is available now on PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, and PC.

Elden-Ring-final-boss-first-form

While braving the harsh world of Elden Ring, players will eventually learn about Radagon, the second Elden Lord. He is also the last Elden Lord active before the Shattering, the war that split the Lands Between apart. His presence in the game is hinted to throughout the player’s entire journey, leading up to an earth-shattering confrontation. But who exactly is Radagon, and what is his importance to Elden Ring’s overall lore? Be warned that there will be heavy spoilers in this article.

Elden Ring Lore: Who is Radagon of the Golden Order?

If you’ve been following a certain NPC’s questline, you’ll learn that Radagon is actually the alter-ego of Queen Marika. The two beings once shared a body, but they eventually split apart. It’s unknown what exactly caused them to split, though one could theorize the cause; Marika was involved in a deadly war with the giants of the Lands Between. After defeating them with the aid of her husband, Godfrey, she cursed one of the giants to guard the flames of his forge. It’s possible Marika did not escape unscathed, however, as Radagon’s red hair is hinted to be the result of a giant’s curse by the Giant’s Red Braid item description.

Whatever the cause for Radagon and Marika’s split, Radagon continued on his own path separately from his other half. He sought to expand his control of the Lands Between, eventually meeting Rennala in battle. Despite meeting as enemies, Radagon and Rennala fell in love, leading to marriage. She gave him a greatsword to symbolize their love, and their union led to three children. These children grew up to become Ranni, Rykard, and Radahn. Eventually, Godfrey was hounded from Leyndell and became the first of the Tarnished, prompting Radagon to return to and marry his other half. He even reforged the greatsword that Rennala gave to him, and the Carian queen was left heartbroken. Radagon did leave a parting gift, however: a Great Rune that allowed Rennala to perfect the act of rebirth.

Fractured-Marika-Elden-Ring-1278x720

Radagon and Marika had two children, the twins Malenia and Miquella. During his time with Rennala, Radagon studied sorceries. While with Marika, he studied incantations instead. He was aided in his studies by Miquella, who gave him numerous incantations as gifts. Eventually, though, the Night of the Black Knives mentioned in the game’s intro came to pass. This led to Marika becoming fully disillusioned with the Greater Will that guided the Lands Between, and she used her hammer to shatter the Elden Ring. Radagon, still loyal to the Greater Will, attempted to fix it, but it was too late. Their bodies were fused back together and imprisoned within the Erdtree as punishment, most likely an act performed by the true final boss of Elden Ring.

When the player finally meets Radagon, he takes control of Marika’s body in an attempt to stop the player from becoming Elden Lord. His broken body makes him immune to hemorrhaging, and his affinity with divine power makes him highly resistant to Holy damage. He’s most dangerous at a distance, as he can fire extremely fast spears of light and instantly teleport to the player’s location. His hammer will gain powerful AOE moves when his health is low, making it even more dangerous to stay too close to him. However, Radagon has low resistance to Fire, and many of his close-range attacks are easily predictable. Radagon will also rely heavily on his own Holy damage output, so a great amount of resistance can go a long way in the fight against him.

Radagon is one of the most important characters in Elden Ring. He stands as one of the last challenges the player must face before they can achieve the title of Elden Lord. Much of his story is still shrouded in mystery, and only time will tell if the full truth shall ever be revealed.

Elden-Ring-Best-Locations-for-PvP-Invasions

PvP is seen as mostly an afterthought in Elden Ring, though it is on by default when exploring the Lands Between with a co-op partner. In any case, there are a few activities in the game where this is necessary, like for White-Faced Varre’s quest. That’s the only notable instance where you need a connection and go into PvP in other people’s words. The only problem is that you may find yourself not finding anyone to invade. Luckily, we are here to help you find the best locations for online invasions (PVP) in Elden Ring.

Best Locations for PvP Invasions in Elden Ring

The best places to invade people are before any major boss or at the very beginning of the game. If you place the Festering Bloody Finger at these places, your likelihood of encountering someone will be extremely high, and here’s why.

People will oftentimes call for help for a boss, specifically those like Margit, Radahn, the Fire Giant, Maliketh, or Malenia. When you are in a co-op session with another player, you are by default, susceptible to invasions. This cannot be turned off. In my experience with cooperative play, my summoner and I were attacked before the major bosses in the game. Do note that if you are the invader, you will most likely run into more than one player fighting against you.

Elden-Ring-invasion-pvp

Alternatively, if you want something more consistent, you can invade people at The First Step Site of Grace. This is an area that new and seasoned players are used to. Players who barely start out the game are probably more likely to play the game cooperatively with a friend or two. They might be casual enough to partner up with someone random. In doing so, like before, they are susceptible to being invaded.

Adding onto that, people who have started New Game + or anything beyond that will also more likely start Varre’s quest quickly to unlock one of the best rune farms in the game. Since a lot of people are going to be on the same boat as you, the best place to meet up without any LFG forums or groups is there. It’s the first place where people are likely to activate the summoning pool.

You can try to place your Bloody Fingers elsewhere, but your luck may not be as high as the aforementioned places without some help from people online.

Fingerslayer-Blade-Ranni

In Elden Ring, players can unlock a series of different endings, but doing so requires, in most cases, that they complete a series of main and specific side-quests. With that said, in order to unlock the game’s Age of the Stars ending, you will have to get your hands on the Fingeslayer Blade, also known as the hidden treasure of the Eternal City of Nokron. But where can you find the Fingerslayer Blade in Elden Ring? To answer that and more, we will now tell you how to get the Fingerslayer Blade in Elden Ring.

How to Get the Fingerslayer Blade in Elden Ring

You can get your hands on the Fingerslayer Blade in Elden Ring by heading to the Ancestral Woods Site of Grace. You can reach the site by going to the Mimic Tear Site of Grace, the place where you faced the Mimic, and then heading to the bridge. From there, go to the last quarter of it and then head west through a small opening at the side before continuing northwest, as doing so you take you to the Site of Grace.

Once in the Ancestral Woods Site of Grace, jump to the rooftops and head north until you reach the Night’s Sacred Ground area. From there, continue forward to the area below, guarded by two enemies, and then head west until you see a broken wall. Use the wall as a bridge and cross it to the other side. From there, just go down until you see the area’s Site of Grace. From the Site, you just need to head towards a massive skeleton sitting on a makeship throne. The Fingerslayer Blade will be located in a chest below the throne.

After giving the item to Ranni, she will give you the Carian Inverted Statue. To recap, here’s how to get the Fingerslayer Blade in Elden Ring:

  • Go to the Ancestral Woods Site of Grace.
  • Head to the Night’s Sacred Ground area.
  • Go northwest and then through a wall towards a church-like area.
  • Go down and then head to ground level.
  • Head to the gigantic skeleton.
  • Open the chest to get the Fingerslayer Blade.

The toughest battles in Elden Ring can lead to the greatest rewards. One such example of this fact is the Dark Moon Greatsword, a weapon found only after following an intricate questline that unlocks an entirely new ending for the game’s story. Variations of this weapon have appeared in numerous FromSoftware titles, and its impressive abilities are sure to continue drawing thousands of players toward it. Like other weapons that require the Intelligence attribute, the players that benefit most from a Dark Moon Greatsword build are spellcasters in need of a great tool for close quarters combat.

Elden Ring Dark Moon Greatsword Build

The Dark Moon Greatsword requires 16 Strength, 11 Dexterity, and 38 Intelligence to use effectively. The scaling on both Strength and Dexterity is very low and relatively similar, while the scaling on Intelligence will mostly be relevant for the weapon’s magic damage. Therefore, players should level up Intelligence and their choice of Strength or Dexterity to increase this weapon’s effectiveness. Surprisingly, Mind might not be relevant for the greatsword itself; the weapon’s Ash of War requires a fair amount of FP to cast, but it simply applies a buff that allows the sword to fire projectiles at no extra cost. Players should only focus on increasing Mind for other sorceries that they might like to use.

The best armor set to use with this weapon is the Spellblade armor set. Each piece from this set will strengthen the Dark Moon Greatsword’s self-applied buff, allowing it to deal more damage with its magic projectiles. If you wish for a more fitting set of armor, the Snow Witch Hat will boost the damage of frost-inflicting sorceries. This does not affect the Dark Moon Greatsword’s projectiles, but it can be used with other sorceries to more easily inflict the frost status. Useful Talismans include Godfrey’s Icon and the Shard of Alexander, both of which will further increase the damage of these projectiles.

Some might argue that the Moonveil katana is a better weapon for spellcasters, as it has less requirements and fires projectiles out much more quickly. Being a katana, however, it does require a bit more from your attributes to match up in terms of damage. The Dark Moon Greatsword also inflicts the frost status as opposed to hemorrhage, meaning it will outperform the katana against powerful foes immune to bleeding. This classic FromSoftware weapon still has a few tricks up its sleeve, and players with the right build can use those tricks to turn this greatsword into one of the best items in the game.

A multitude of unique weapons can be wielded by players in Elden Ring. One of these weapons, the Black Knife, is a powerful dagger with abilities boasted by few other weapons. The Ash of War that comes with it cannot be removed, but it allows the blade to fire a projectile that temporarily reduces an enemy’s maximum health. If that wasn’t enough, the dagger also deals strong Holy damage and can be found once you reach Altus Plateau. Despite its seemingly low damage, this weapon’s unique ability makes a Black Knife build worth considering for many players.

Elden Ring Black Knife Build

The Black Knife requires 8 Strength, 12 Dexterity, and 18 Faith to wield. As one might expect due to scaling, Dexterity and Faith are the best attributes to level up for the Black Knife. Additionally, 8 Strength is the base amount for every starting class, so it’s unlikely that you’ll ever need to level that attribute up to wield the Black Knife effectively. You might want to put some extra points in Mind, though, just to ensure you’ll always be able to use the weapon’s abilities to their fullest.

The best armor for the Black Knife is light or medium armor. Due to this dagger’s lack of access to the Quickstep or Bloodhound’s Step Ashes of War, you’ll have to rely on fast rolls to get out of tricky situations. The Black Knife armor set is relatively mediumweight and has the bonus of muffling your footsteps, allowing you to sneak up on enemies much easier. The Godskin Swaddling Cloth, Millicent’s Prosthesis, and Winged Sword Insignia are excellent Talismans for both the Black Knife and most other daggers. The Sacred Scorpion Charm, Shard of Alexander, and Carian Filigreed Crest are also helpful in making the Black Knife’s Ash of War even more powerful.

While the Black Knife cannot be buffed itself, spells such as Golden Vow can still increase its damage. Due to this weapon’s low strength requirement, it pairs well with any spell catalyst or small shield, allowing you to cover more elemental weaknesses or parry attacks from tough foes. The Black Knife can also just be used to ravage an enemy’s health before finishing them off with a stronger weapon. Even without a build of its own, the Black Knife is a powerful tool for any player that can meet its requirements.

Elden Ring’s NPC’s endure a gauntlet of calamitous or disturbing life events, and Lightseeker Hyetta is no exception in this case.  A blind maiden on the quest to find the “distant light” whose senses are triggered upon eating mysterious Shabiri Grapes, this character is directly linked to the “Lord of the Frenzied Flame” ending of the game.  But as a player, you’ll find yourself confronted with an ethical dilemma while interacting with her: should you tell her the truth about what she’s been doing in order to follow her destiny?  Read on for our guide on Whether You Should Tell Hyetta About the Human Eyes in Elden Ring!

Elden Ring: Should You Tell Hyetta About Human Eyes?

Elden-Ring-Gate-Town-Bridge-Hyetta-location

The answer is yes, you should tell her that the “Shabiri Grapes” she, a blind woman, has been getting fed by strangers, are actually oozing eyeballs plucked from madmen, as telling her the truth also progresses her questline.  The question appears after you find her third location at Gate Town Bridge.  While this appears to be a ritual on the path to becoming a finger maiden, it seems like an ethical given, to tell the truth about the mystery meat you’re feeding to somebody under the guise of grapes.  Once you’ve chosen to tell her, fast travel to the same location and speak to her again, enabling the dialogue to progress and for her to leave for the fourth location.

Hyetta’s questline ties into the Madness status effect related to the Frenzied Flame and the Three Fingers, one of the powerful deities of the realm.  Telling her the truth of the Shabiri Grapes doesn’t upset her as much as you might think, and brings you one step closer to one of the bleaker endings of the game, a global purge by fire.

This concludes our guide on Whether You Should Tell Hyetta About the Human Eyes in Elden Ring!  Be sure to check out our other guides, and our review!

Elden-Ring-upgrade-armor

During your journey throughout the many dangers present in Elden Ring, you will be able to make use of a wide array of not only various weapons, each featuring their own playstyle and characteristics, but also equip a wide array of armor pieces, many of which can prove to be the difference between getting one-shotted by one of the game’s massive and extremely aggressive bosses or managing to withstand the blow and stay in the fight. But can you upgrade your armor pieces in Elden Ring?

Can You Upgrade Armor in Elden Ring?

Unfortunately to all players who were hoping to upgrade their favorite pieces of armor and overall sets in the game, the Tarnished cannot upgrade/refine their armor pieces/sets. With that said, even if you cannot upgrade your set’s overall stats, the game offers many other ways to increase your protection, which can be done by equipping select pieces of armor offering passives, as well as by equipping many different Talismans, which will be, together with your stat distribution and weapon of choice, the defining factors of select builds.

How to Get More Defense in the Game

The best way to increase your overall defense in Elden Ring can be done by either equipping heavy pieces of armor, set to provide, at the cost of mobility, bigger protection against physical and magical attacks. As we said above, equipping select Talismans, which can offer a massive increase in your resistance against various types of damage, is also advised.

With that out of the way, among the many Talismans, you can increase your overall Physical damage negation by equipping either the Dragoncrest Shield Talisman or the Dragoncrest Greatshield Talisman. For those looking to increase their overall defense against pure magic, it can be done by equipping either tier of the Spelldrake Talisman.

elden-ring-greatsword

Elden Ring is a game with many secrets to discover. Quite a few of these secrets might surprise long-time fans of FromSoftware’s older titles. Players brave enough to explore Caelid’s oppressive environment might be lucky to discover the Greatsword, a weapon that appeared in all three Dark Souls games. Known by many as a reference to Guts from the Berserk manga, this weapon has been a staple of countless player builds. But what does it take to make a Greatsword build in Elden Ring?

Elden Ring Guts Greatsword Build

Elden Ring’s Greatsword requires 31 Strength and 12 Dexterity to wield. It scales very well with the former attribute, but this can be changed with Ash of War infusion. Despite being a large and heavy weapon, the Greatsword is able to accept Ashes of War such as Bloodhound’s Step, allowing the player’s movements to become surprisingly fast. Thanks to this special quirk, as well as the ability to cut this weapon’s Strength requirement in half through two-handing, both Strength and Dexterity are useful attributes to level up depending on which affinity you provide for the Greatsword.

The Greatsword falls under the Colossal Sword weapon class. These weapons benefit from high defense, so heavy armor – or medium armor with a lot of poise – will prove to be very effective. The Bull-Goat’s set is fantastic for this purpose. If that’s too heavy for your build to withstand, Radahn’s set is a good alternative. As one might expect, the best Talismans to use for the Greatsword are the ones that improve defense and poise. The Dragoncrest Greatshield Talisman, Bull-Goat’s Talisman, Erdtree’s Favor, and Crimson Amber Medallion can all prove to be very useful in this regard. You might also want a Talisman that can lower your equipment load such as the Arsenal Charm, as the Greatsword is still a very heavy weapon on its own.

Unlike weapons such as the Sword of Night and Flame, the Greatsword is incredibly basic. It has no special attributes and can be infused with numerous Ashes of War. As a result, making a Greatsword build beyond these recommendations is really just up to the player’s specifications. Two-hand it and increase your Dexterity if you want to focus on speed, or pair it with another colossal sword for pure Strength-focused damage. If you can handle the weight, there’s room for the Greatsword on any build.

elden-ring-fingerprint-stone-shield

Elden Ring has many offensive options for players to utilize on their quest to become Elden Lord. What some players might not realize is that the best offense can come from a great defense. Shields in Elden Ring can be used to block attacks, but they can also make for powerful weapons. If players search for the path towards the Frenzied Flame, they’ll find a powerful greatshield in both offensive and defensive capacities. Anyone having trouble with survival in the Lands Between should strongly consider making a build around the Fingerprint Stone Shield.

Elden Ring Fingerprint Stone Shield Build

The Fingerprint Stone Shield requires 48 Strength to wield. It does not scale with any other attribute by default, but players can change this by infusing it with an Ash of War. As a greatshield, its powerful defensive capabilities are offset by its weight. Endurance is already among the most important attributes to level up, but this importance is only multiplied with a greatshield in hand. The best attributes to level up for wielding this shield effectively are Strength and Endurance, alongside whichever attribute best compliments the shield’s infused affinity. If you decide to use the shield exclusively for attacking and defending, two-handing it will mitigate the Strength requirements. This will allow for more freedom in which affinity you choose.

Since greatshields are designed to tank attacks rather than avoid them altogether, the Fingerprint Stone Shield pairs best with heavy armor. The Bull-Goat set, found through the Volcano Manor questline, fits this specification perfectly. Radagon’s Soreseal and the Greatshield Talisman will also make for fantastic additions to your equipment. If you want to take further advantage of what Elden Ring has to offer, one might also consider the Great-Jar’s Arsenal or Erdtree’s Favor. These incredible Talismans will keep you from being over-encumbered, allowing you to avoid grabs or magic attacks that can’t be guarded effectively.

The Fingerprint Stone Shield doesn’t have to be used all on its own, however. A thrusting sword, such as the Cleanrot Knight’s Sword or the Antspur Rapier, will allow you to attack while keeping your guard up. If you want to replace the Greatshield Talisman with something else, then the Barricade Shield Ash of War will keep your guarding ability at an extremely high level. By pairing the right gear and abilities with this shield, even the toughest bosses can be defeated without a single scratch.

Like with many of FromSoftware’s other titles, Elden Ring‘s exploration goes deeper than secret items and areas hidden in the world. To many players, understanding the lore of this game can feel like an adventure in of itself. The story behind early foes such as Godrick the Grafted can feel somewhat mysterious and unexplained. Defeating this tough boss is an impressive achievement, but some players might still be wondering about his identity – even with his Great Rune in their hands. Just who is Godrick, and how does he fit into Elden Ring’s lore?

Elden Ring Lore: Who is Godrick the Grafted?

Godrick is one of the demigods of the Lands Between, ruling over Limgrave. He’s technically the “final boss” of this area, serving as the greatest challenge players will encounter up to that point…as long as those players didn’t skip him entirely beforehand. He is weak to physical attacks and most status effects with the exception of madness and death blight. His movements are generally quite slow and telegraphed; his overall moveset is nowhere near as flashy or deadly as any other shardbearer. Godrick lives up to his title of the least-powerful demigod while still providing a great challenge to players not expecting it.

The lore behind Godrick is simpler than many other characters in Elden Ring, but there’s still quite a few secrets behind him to uncover. He, like many of the other demigods, claimed a piece of the Elden Ring for himself before being hounded from the capital. He took many treasures with him before leaving, including the Mimic’s Veil, which can be found in his castle. A gravestone in Limgrave details the defeat of Godrick during the Shattering, having been beaten into submission by Malenia. The NPC Kenneth Haight mentions this battle, alongside other events such as Godrick hiding amongst the fleeing women of the capital and sheltering himself from Radahn within Stormveil Castle.

Elden-Ring-Godrick-the-Grafted-Throne

It’s difficult to say when Godrick began his obsession with grafting, but one can assume it happened sometime after he left the capital. The throne he left behind in Leyndell is quite small compared to the one in Stormveil, where he currently rules. When facing off against him, he seems to almost share a connection with the various limbs he’s grafted onto himself. Godrick talks to the fallen dragon in his arena with respect, asking it to grant him strength. Interestingly, he’s not the first being in the Lands Between to perform grafting; a hidden boss found within an evergaol, Godefroy the Grafted, shares Godrick’s appearance. The connection Godefroy shares with Godrick is unknown, but the glaring similarities could imply that Godrick first obtained the idea of grafting from him.

Godrick’s obsession extends much further than grafting. He holds high respect for his forefathers, especially Godfrey, the first Elden Lord. It is later explained that Godrick’s bloodline is heavily diluted, making his status as a demigod much less impressive when compared to his brothers and sisters. Godrick uses the power of many to perform on par with other demigods because he cannot stand up to them on his own. This is well-reflected in gameplay, as Godrick is perhaps the easiest demigod to fight against. Defeating him is no easy task, but the shardbearers after him will provide even greater challenges.

Elden-Ring-Godfrey-First-Elden-Lord-1278x720

Players on Elden Ring have been traversing the Lands Between for a while now and with so many difficult bosses, it may feel impossible for some players to beat the game. In fact, some players may even quit the game altogether because of the difficulty of the FromSoftware game. However, you must press on if you’ve made it to Godfrey, the First Elden Lord because of how close you are to beating the game! So, don’t give up. Instead, read up on our guide on how to cheese the First Elden Lord, Godfrey. In this guide, we will show you the cheesiest ways to Beat Godfrey, First Elden Lord.

How to Beat Godfrey, First Elden Lord in Elden Ring

Thanks to YouTuber Tyrannicon, there is a very valuable method to cheesing one of the hardest bosses in the entire game. As he puts it, all you need “is a weapon, a pair of legs, and a thumb.” If you have these three things, you are ready to cheese Godfrey, the First Elden Lord.

First, you will need to equip a weapon that does a downward strike when doing a jumping attack. Clubs do this very well with one hand. But, two-handing the weapon also works.

Next, you will need to jump up onto the railing on the right side of the golden fog door before Godfrey’s boss room. This will take a few tries but eventually, you will be able to consistently jump up onto the railing. Sprint into the stone block in front of you then, while sprinting, jump slightly to the side of the stone block. While in mid-air, point the camera back towards the railing and hit the heavy attack button on your system of choice.

If you time this correctly, you will be able to jump around the stone block and back onto the railing. Once you’ve done this, quit the game and reload your character. As the game is loading in, hold forwards and the spring button. You will spawn inside the boss room and you will be able to run past him and into the final boss room.

Pretty cowardly, right? Well, if you decide to hit Godfrey, he will not wake up until his second phase, changing his name to Hoarah Loux and his form to a grappling monster.

Thinking about cheesing the next boss, Radagon of the Golden Order? Well, if you need a guide, we have got you covered. Check out our article on how to Cheese Radagon in Elden Ring.

Elden-Ring-Ulcerated-Tree-Spirit-1269x720

Elden Ring has been out for 2 months and players have taken to the game immensely, whether it be speedrunners conquering the game in minutes rather than hours, or newcomers enjoying FromSoftware‘s formula for the first time.  There are so many bosses it seems trivial to bother counting, but one particularly grotesque monstrosity is the Ulcerated Tree Spirit, a recurring boss you’ll encounter all across the Lands Between.  This boss can be physically imposing, quick, and aggressive, but there’s a key weakness in its design you can exploit in powerful ways.  Read on for our guide on How to Cheese the Ulcerated Tree Spirit in Elden Ring!

Elden Ring Ulcerated Tree Spirit Cheese: How to Beat Ulcerated Tree Spirit

The Ulcerated Tree Spirit is quick to anger if you go near it, but depending on where you find it, the key is three core steps:

  • Provoke it.
  • Retreat to a safe distance, sneak behind it and wait for it to stop moving around.
  • Spam Poison Mist when directly behind it, or similarly inflict poison.

This approach has been used by players in the Elden Ring community with success, but Ogles, who posted a video on the subject, preaches patience while doing this.  The Ulcerated Tree Spirit is not incredibly weak to this ailment, but due to Poison Mist not technically provoking its aggro despite causing sustained damage over time, this can result in a win with complete impunity.

You can find the Ulcerated Tree Spirit as early on as in the depths below Stormveil Castle, at Mt. Gelmir, or Leyndell, among other locations, and they typically guard worthwhile treasure.  The boss is a big target for projectiles too, and if you have to get into a fight, the main thing is to prepare for it to try and close the distance a lot, and rather quickly.

Elden Ring Update 1.07 Patch Notes (Version 1.04.1) https://attackofthefanboy.com/guides/elden-ring-update-1-07-patch-notes-version-1-04-1/ https://attackofthefanboy.com/guides/elden-ring-update-1-07-patch-notes-version-1-04-1/#respond Wed, 27 Apr 2022 09:09:33 +0000 https://attackofthefanboy.com/?p=835682
Elden-Ring-Promotional-Image

Update 1.07 has arrived for Elden Ring, and here’s the full list of changes and fixes added with this patch. Elden Ring was released two months ago, and players have been exploring every nook and cranny of the Lands Between since the game’s launch. The game isn’t without its problems, though, and performance issues and minor glitches have been slightly tainting the otherwise excellent experience. Players have been getting banned for picking up illicit items like the Deathbed Smalls, bosses like Radahn have been nerfed and un-nerfed, and much more since launch. It’s been a rocky road, and another update is here to fix some more things. Here’s everything new with Elden Ring update 1.07.

Elden Ring Update 1.07 Patch Notes

This is just a small update that fixes some issues from the last patch, so there aren’t many new additions. This update brings the game to version 1.04.1, but the update is 1.07 on PS4. Here’s the full list of patch notes directly from Bandai Namco.

  • Fixed a bug in which the effect duration of the Cerulean Hidden Tear was revised downward
  • Fixed a bug with Malenia, Blade of Miquella in which her HP was not healed correctly in the online multiplayer environment
  • Fixed a bug that caused some bosses to die at unintended times
    • Fixed a bug that prevented the boss “Elden Beast” from working properly under certain circumstances
  • Fixed some texts

The version number of this update shown at the lower right corner of the Title Screen will be as follows: App Ver. 1.04.1/Regulation Ver. 1.04.2. You’ll need to install this update in order to play online.

Elden Ring version 1.04 was a huge update for the game that buffed colossal weapons, improved Incantations, and made other highly-requested balance changes to the game. However, this patch also inadvertently introduced new bugs to the game. While they were minor, they could get in the way of some boss fights like the deadly Malenia, Blade of Miquella. These issues have been fixed in this patch, so things should be a bit smoother from now on.

Elden Ring is available now on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X|S.

With the right friends, no challenge is too difficult to overcome in Elden Ring. Thanks to useful items and password matchmaking, it’s possible to play through most of the game with friends online. If an entire group is too inexperienced, though, they’re bound to run into some trouble as tougher bosses and more dangerous dungeons stand before them. In these cases, it’s not a bad idea to join friends in Elden Ring as a healer. By using spells and items, there’s a surprising number of ways in which healers can assist their teammates.

How to Create a Healer Class in Elden Ring

To begin making a healer, players should choose the Prophet as their starting class. This choice has the highest starting Faith of any class in the game, and it even starts out with the Heal incantation. This spell will restore a flat amount of HP to you and your allies, making it vital for any class that wants to become a pure healer. There are many other spells that can assist both yourself and allies in numerous ways; players should take note of their requirements and effects. These spells are:

  • HealGreat Heal, Lord’s Heal, and Erdtree Heal – Heals a flat amount of HP. The strongest version, Erdtree Heal, requires 42 Faith.
  • Fortification spells and Protection of the Erdtree – Increases defense against non-physical damage. The strongest version, Protection of the Erdtree, requires 35 Faith.
  • Blessing’s Boon and Blessing of the Erdtree – Gradually restores HP over a period of time. The strongest version, Blessing of the Erdtree, requires 38 Faith.
  • Law of Regression – Heals all negative statuses and removes buffs from other players. Requires 37 Intelligence.

The Sacred Seal used by the player will not heavily change the effectiveness of these spells. Healers should get their hands on Talismans that can assist in spellcasting, such as the Radagon Icon, Old Lord’s Talisman, and Primal Glintstone Blade. Weapons with the Prayerful Strike or Holy Ground Ashes of War will restore HP to allies with their abilities. The Warming Stone and Frenzyflame Stone consumables will also heal allies for varying amounts, making for a good alternative if you run out of FP. Beyond these choices, the best equipment for a healer is up to the player’s discretion. It might be best to focus on high defense, though; the best way to keep your allies from dying is to keep yourself alive, as well!

Elden Ring is available on PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, and PC.

Wouldn’t it be nice to get Runes for every time you hit someone in Elden Ring? You would never need to go after some major boss for some extra Runes to put into your Dexterity build or your Intelligence/Faith build. Well, in this article, we will show you how to do just that by helping you find the four weapons in the game that grant 20 Runes each hit. If you’re farming Runes or you’re just collecting all the weapons in the game, this guide will show you how to find all four Celebrant weapons in Elden Ring.

How to Find All Four Celebrant Weapons in Elden Ring

Three out of the four Celebrant weapons in all of Elden Ring are actually just random drops from Celebrant enemies that dance around the Windmill Village in the northern part of Altus Plateau.

To get either the Celebrant’s Rib-Rake (Str 8, Dex 14), the Celebrant’s Cleaver (Str 12, Dex 8), or the Celebrant’s Sickle (Str 6, Dex 11), players will need to kill plenty of Celebrants throughout the Windmill Village until the weapons drop from these enemies.

If you are looking to speed up the process, you will need to rank up your Discovery by raising your Arcane attribute in the level-up menu. Also, be sure to pick up the Silver Scarab talisman (in the Hidden Path to the Haligtree behind an illusory wall) and the Silver-Picked Fowl Foot consumable which levels up your Discovery for a short time.

Elden Ring Celebrant Skull Location

Elden-Ring-Celebrants-Skull-Location

The last of the four Celebrant weapons is actually the easiest to find because it does not take any grinding to get through random drops from the Celebrant enemies. All you need to do is travel to Dominula, Windmill Village Site of Grace, and head north until you get all the way to the cliff’s edge. Once there, turn east and follow that same ledge until you are able to see a body with an item on it. Pick up that item and you will receive the Celebrant’s Skull (18 Str, 12 Dex).

To use Celebrant weapons, players will need to hit NPCs to gather Runes. You will get 10 Runes for every hit with the Celebrant’s Cleaver, Sickle, and Rib-Rake. However, you will get 20 Runes with every hit from the Celebrant’s Skull.

Since there are so many important NPCs, it is important that you do not hit them with these weapons. Instead, there is an NPC named Primeval Sorcerer Azur north of the Hermit Village in Mt. Gelmir. This NPC can be hit as many times as you want, and with the Celebrant Weapons, you can get an infinite amount of Runes from him. The Tarnished can use this to their advantage when farming Runes in Elden Ring.

Elden Ring is available now for PC, PlayStation 4 and 5, Xbox One, and Series X|S.

Elden-Ring-Celebrants-Skull

Elden Ring has been out for 2 months but the game is huge and there are plenty of crazy locations and weapons to discover in your travels.  While there are certainly more typical weapons that feature prominently in many playthroughs, others serve as fun alternatives with powerful abilities, but also feature interesting in-game lore and references.  One such weapon is the Celebrant’s Skull, a Great Hammer with relatively low requirements to wield.  Read on for our guide on Where to Get Celebrant’s Skull in Elden Ring!

Elden Ring: Where to Get Celebrant’s Skull Hammer

Elden-Ring-Celebrants-Skull-Location

The Celebrant’s Skull is just northeast of the Windmill Village site of grace, along the cliff on the outer edge of Dominula, Windmill Village along the northern edges of Altus Plateau.  The weapon is found on a corpse near three birds perched along the cliff, and you don’t have to worry about fighting any surprise enemies or encountering any traps.  But the lore attached to this weapon suggests the brutal nature of this village’s inhabitants, in which even a celebratory tool that’s covered in festive flowers and fabrics is a massive, brutal bludgeon.

Windmill Village is a clear, obvious reference to the Hårga commune from Midsommar, a recent, critically acclaimed folk horror film.  It takes clear visual and thematic cues from it, although with a natural FromSoftware twist.  The inhabitants are largely, deceptively peaceful until you come too close or attack, to which they respond by attacking as a group brutally.  The Celebrant’s Skull is a weapon embodiment of this juxtaposition between joyful and violent.  The weapon also has the Barbaric Roar special attack, which boosts your attack power, and if you land strikes with this weapon, you’ll gain bonus runes.

Elden-Ring-Lions-Claw

Elden Ring’s weapons and techniques are steeped in-game lore, and one such technique is the Lion’s Claw Ash of War.  This is an ability which, when assigned to swords, axes, and hammers, is a rather broad spectrum of weapons.  Along with adding the Heavy affinity to the assigned weapon, your skill attack will be an aerial somersault where you pull off a mighty, acrobatic strike on the enemy.  Read on for our guide on How to Get the Lion’s Claw Ash of War in Elden Ring!

Elden Ring: How to Get Lion’s Claw Ash of War

Elden-Ring-Lions-Claw-Map

The Lion’s Claw technique is obtained from the Redmanes, based in Caelid, in this case specifically Fort Gael, directly south of Rotview Balcony where you enter the region from Limgrave.  The fortress is along the southwestern shores of Caelid and is rather easily reached, and inside you’ll need to fight a Lion Guardian to obtain Ash of War: Lion’s Claw.  While you’re there, be sure to loot the fort and climb the ladder from the inside, where you’ll reach a wall along the eastern side you can jump over, this leads to some enemies and the Flame, Grant Me Strength incantation as a bonus.

The Lion’s Claw technique is one used by the Redmane soldiers, Radahn’s army.  These are some of the hardiest combatants in the Lands Between, and their story makes for some impressive background to their current state of affairs in the game.  Caelid, at this point, is ravaged by the Scarlet Rot and its inhabitants are forced to fight to survive against the massive scavengers roaming the land, and numerous Redmane strongholds around the region are loaded up with siege weapons, prepared to crush any intruders.
